Where did you buy the bike? Any dealer who sells a bike is more than happy to instruct you on the use and maintenance of it. I will give you a brief, lesson-left hand controls the front brake and gears, right hand controls the rear (R=rear, easy way to remember). Front derailleur is the ranges 1 (closest to the bike are always easiest) and the farther away from the frame get harder but make the bike go faster. The rear derailleur has more than likely 7 cogs again same rule as above. So always pedal forward and do not go small gear in front to small gear in rear, & large gear in front to large gear in rear because your chain will stretch from too much stress and it doesn't do you any good.
Do not pedal backwards because unless your chain is directly on the correct gear you will chip teeth on your gears.
But, do go for lessons on your bike, to learn maintenance tips and how remove your wheels, etc.
Remember bikes are not toys, they are machines and need to maintained to get the full enjoyment out of them.

If you can't find with a search for st-ef40 diagram or on the Shimano site then it does not exist. Although not identical carefully disassembling the other shifter may give you enough insight.

I can only get 4 gears on a Shimano 7 speed. Shifter lever will only move three times.

Could be just an over-tight cable.. or the limit screws at the gear end over-tightened so that the selector does not transverse the full width of the gear cluster cassette...

Where can I get manual for new Shimano EF-50- EZ trigger shifter???Not familiar with this shifter usage---wher is lowest gear for hills??? Which nunbers do i use for just regular bike paths??????

The manual will not help you understand shifting. Your lowest gear is (Left hand =Front gears and brakes, Right hand=rear gears and brakes). Your easiest gears are the ones closest to the frame of the bike, so, 1st gear is small sprocket on the front and large one on the rear, and remember, front is your ranges , then rear is to fine tune. No one can tell you what gear you should be in, your legs will. Do not pedal backwards, always forward, and do not kitty corner your chain, ie, small gear to small gear and large to large, because it will stretch your chain (yes, chains stretch and then you have to replace. Use both brakes at the same time, just using the front will throw you, and the rear will only slow you down not stop you. It is just like a car, front brakes do most of the work. Good luck

New shifters for deore xt x7 delrailer

Shimano make an "EZ fire" which is an integrated shifter/brake lever combination and cheaper than buying seperate shifters and levers.

Require assembly schematic for shimano dura ace shifter . left shifter lever failed, will not activate the front derailler, disassembled, found nothing broken, require advice regarding proper reassembly...

log onto Shimano.com, it is probably the limit screws (the two screws that limit travel) or you have a faulty ratchet in the lever, try the shimano website anyway they have great tutorial and manual support
