Hello,
Sony handycam model starts with CCD-XXXX shows that its analog camcorder and its picture signal is analog. You can't connect directly camera with PC to transfer files. You need to install MPEG card or some thing like that in PC 1st and this card will digitize analog picture signal into compatible format.

SOURCE: Which cable do I need to conect my camcorder to pc

if you need a visual on it, there is a video on www.HandBookLive.com under Electronics. The example is Belkin IEEE 1394 cable (Firewire and I-Link compatable) and it connects digital camera to a laptop.

SOURCE: Handycam says C:31:22

error 31:22 means camera mechanism has error in take-up reel section and micro processor isn't receiving reel signal so it shuts down playback/ record function immediately. look into take-up reel section of mechanism.

SOURCE: video transfer from sony handycam ccd-trv 308 hi8 to a computer

The S-video on your computer is for output video (to connect to monitor or TV). Samething for your Cam. You need to have a device video input (USB or PCMCIA) to connect to your computer, and a software (driver that comes with the device) to CAPTURE the video from your Cam.
So you need a hardware and sofware for this. Price now is ~ US$ 40 to > US$100 depending on the brand and quality.

your sony ccd-trv 108 will transfer videos(stream) to a computer using firewire connection. install the supplied software or use any program compatible for streaming like windows movie maker. use a firewire cable. check your computer for a firewire port(port with IEEE symbol) make sure that the tape is totally rewounded then press the record button on windows movie maker as the same time as you play the video from the camcorder. (its basically playing the entire video in order for windows movie maker to record it.

Sony TR425e picture slightly faded with slight snow and streaks.

You may get by with just a video head cleaning based on your symptoms. I do camcorder clean and service for just $40, but I'm in California. 916-362-8708. I do repair pal units like yours as well as the standard ntsc format as we use here in the usa. Larry Stiles, Larry's Electronics.

Sony handycam and pc transfer

Hello,
Sony CCD-TRV218E is analog PAL camcorder and can not be hooked with PC directly.
Computer (PC) requires digital format files to store on HDD and your camcorder has no digital file format to directly transfer in to computer.

You can hook your camcorder with DVD recorder to burn a DVD. Now you have digital files on DVD and can be transferred in PC.
