Question about Other Network Devices

Western digital mybook world

After setup with WD Anywhere Access, neither Windows nor WD/MioNet can locate the MyBook World external drive. It displays in MioNet as a failed mount. i have followed suggestions from the WD support site but it is still unresolved.

I would like to set it up so that I could use the device online but also as a private storage device if I choose to do so.

If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

i also have a western digital mybook exrernal hd and when i log in to mionet (the software it uses to connect the mybook external drive to my pc through the network) it says the harddrive "failed mount". any help would be nice thank you in advance.

I also get the "Failed mount" error, but only after installing the latest version and only when trying to access my mionet (or other computer on which I have installed Mionet) remotley.
However, both the drive and the reomte computers seems to be accesible as soon as I am on the same LAN as they are.

The best thing to do is to stop mionet and then restart it and see if that helps.
If it doesn't then stop mionet and manually map to the drive.
go to my computer and then map drive choose a drive letter and map to wherever your files are (mine is on the root of the drive so my share starts with id.....) it may ask you for a password. if it does then you need to uninstall mionet and then reinstall it. when it starts for the first time it will say that if you use a certain backup program then you will need a username and password, make a note of these as you will need these to log onto your mapped drive.
to stop mionet running just right click on my computer, select manage, go to services and set the mionet service to disabled.

How resolve cannot "Connect to Network Printer" with Windows Vista

One of the more interesting errors in Windows Vista happens when you try to connect to a shared network printer. Most of the time you'll receive an "Access is Denied" error when trying to connect even though you can see the printer on the network and everything else is working properly.
Everything else on the network appears to work properly, shared files, internet access, etc. However, you just cannot access the ahared printer and print.
The solution is to add the printer as a local printer and then try printing. Follow the directions below to accomplish this.
f114c08.jpg

1. Go into Control Panel 2. Underneath the Hardware and Sound category, click on Printer 3. Click on Add a printer from the top menu 4. Click on Add a Local Printer 5. Choose Create a New Port with type of port remaining Local Port, then click Next 6. In the Port Name box type the path to the printer you wish to connect to and Click Ok
Ex. \\mycomputer\myprinter
If the computer you wish to connect to is named Bob and the printer is called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP
7. In the Install Printer Driver screen, select your printer from the list or choose Have Disk and find the location of the printer drivers on the computer then click Next and then click Finish. 8. You should now see the printer installed in the Printers window. 9. Right-click on the printer and click Properties 10. On the General tab, click Print Test Page to test the printer.
You should now be able to printer from Windows Vista to this networked printer without any problems.

How do i change my security settings in my belkin router to WEP and what concequences will this have

You need to access your admin console, go into wireless settings and setup the WEP security. Usually, you will put in a passphrase and the router will generate keys from that. You will use that key to allow computers to connect to your wireless router for internet access. Be sure and change the default access password for your router's admin console, or all of the security in the world won't make a difference.

Personally, I prefer to use MAC filtering. Not the easiest to deal with when guests come over, but it keeps the pests out and I don't have to remember pass keys...

I want change my first boot device as cd rom. my system is ibm p3 slot processor

Restart your computer. When you see the first screen you will have 2 options. One is a BIOS setup. It's either F8 or F1. Once you get into your BIOS (screen will be mostly blue). There will be a boot option screen. Make sure you chance the #1 device to CD-Rom.

Everytime I try to access the public folders from the computers on my network (which both are marked to share public folders) I get an error message saying I don't have permission to access the folder...

Make certain that ipx and spx protocol is installed on both machines. You have to go through windows setup network wizard through the netwok connection properties. Once you double click on that there it is the network wizard setup.

Advent adaptors are unreliable

Every Advent product I have ever bought has been rubbish in some way or another. The Advent Powerline plugs are with out doubt the most unreliable pieces of **** I have ever used. I must have been through about 4 of these things now, and they just keep going wrong. Usually they just stop working one day and never come back on. Well done PC World for bringing this 'excellent' product to the wide audiences. My advise, stay clear of this and every Advent branded product you can. Spend a little bit more and you won't regret it.
