has no picture with a line through the middle of the screen. it's not that old feb 2006.

I have a black screen and a thin white line across the middle of the screen, and it won't go away. I can't see anything. The sound is okay, but the picture is horrible

I'm having the same problem with my Toshiba (which was purchased in March 2006). We'll be watching a show or movie and the picture will blink out and turn in to a thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. The normal picture usually comes back within 20 seconds to two minutes, or by turning the television on and off. Is this a problem with the picture tube (the two year warranty just expired)?

Your set will have cracked solder joints in and about the vertical output stages. This is not a major repair, and will require re-soldering of that stage, and maybe a few capacitors replaced as a cursory repair as preventative maintenance. should cost between $50-80 depending on who you get to look at it. If you are quoted a price higher than this, I suggest ringing around repair guys in your area and be careful to explain exactly what you have described the fault as here.
