Janome memory craft 5700, purchased 2004

Machine does not sew. the top thread breaks. I checked and cleaned bobbin area. changed the needle, rethreaded the machine. when I turn on the machine and try to sew, it will start but then it makes a noise, vibrates, the top thread breaks in the bobbin area, and I get the message to stop for safety purposes. the bobbin holder does not seem to be staying in place. I even tried a new bobbin.

Take out your bobbin case and examine it for nicks, scratches and or rough spots. If the problem is not too bad it may be possible to buff out the bad spot with an emery stick or emery cloth. If that isn't possible or it makes too much noise after you buff it you will have to replace it. Look especially along the edges and underneath.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure to use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is not over wound
make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case
make sure the bobbin is not warped or damaged
if you've done all these things then it's also possible that the machine
is out of time & needs to be checked at a repair shop

Upper thread breaks
needle may be in backwards
Raise the needle bar to the highest point then loosen the clamp screw to remove the old needle, place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side to the back of the machine
Push the needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw

the needle may be bent or damaged

I am new to this machine & would like to know how to use metallic embroidery thread. Every time I try the thread breaks

check the tension
if the thread will not easily pull thru the needle eye you need one size larger needle
also keep under the needle plate clean of lint
& also the bobbin area

Top thread breaking during sewing.

your needle needs to be replaced and make sure it is in correctly..if this does not work you will need to make sure your thread is not old. then adjust you bobbin tension...there are 2 tensions on machine top and bobbin

Needle jaming and thread gathering under bobin case

when this happens to me (the needle breaking) I make it a thing to do and that is to use a qtip with a bit of oil and clean the bobbin holder and then use canned air and blow out the lint from area and this may help you. You may have a tiny tiny piece of needle left in the holder and this will play havoc with any kind of sewing machine. I have suffered through it many times before I made this a practice when needle breaks

When feed dogs down top stitching fine ,but underneath large loops and cobbling settings are as per instructions in manual , ? problem

Have you checked to see if the Thread has slipped out of the Tension guides? Here are my quick steps to getting back to happy sewing:
  1. Remove bobbin and blow out the dust from in and around the bobbin case, when replacing bobbin... make sure it the thread is traveling the right direction in the bobbin case. (this one never hurts to try, a backwards bobbin causes lots of probelms)
  2. Re-thread the machine (the thread in my Janome sometimes comes out of the thread uptake lever causing the problem you described, could mean your threading path might need to be cleaned)
  3. New needle (the tiniest bent needle can cause hair pulling issues.)

Janome Memory Craft 9500 Troubleshooting

The solution that I found last night was the thread tension. I have never touched the dial, only had it set on 'auto." When I started playing with it, I realized the top thread should be really easy to pull through the machine and it wasn't. I started turning the dial (to 3 or 4) and the thread slid through the machine perfectly. No more birds nest! I really thought it was bobbin initially because of the horrible sound it was making.
