Question about Samsung PCN5425R 54" Rear Projection Television

Convergence Problem Hello, I am having a convergence problem I believe. The red is dipping down and out of alignment. When I attempt to realign the red it will not do it properly and usually just makes it worse. The other two *blue and green* seem to be find as the picture looks good across the middle of the screen because red is Barely off at the middle. Does this sound like a convergence board problem? I can post pictures if this helps or any feedback is REALLY appreciated!

So your telling me that i should order this resistor and replace it for the red convergence amp and it will fix the problem? How sure are you and do they sell these locally or only online? If this does not help is there any other piece of information that will help me? Also, i assume this is not the same thing as replacing the convergence board? Is this something that is clipped in or does it require soldering etc.... more information would be great.

Hey man, I appreciate all of the information you have provided me with
but I am thinking that its probably better to replace the entire board
because as I am looking at the board I see that the ICs are located
directly on the board for my tv and the back has a black substance
which smells of burnt. Is there a way I may show you a picture? I
appreciate all your support with this issue!!!!

  • afic0101 May 22, 2008

This is the front and on the back it shows the black substance that I was talking about.

  • afic0101 May 22, 2008

    this is front

  • afic0101 May 22, 2008

If these pictures do not help then I can send it big format to you through e-mail. I am thinking that since the ICs are on the board its better to replace the entire board? What are your thoughts?

  • afic0101 May 22, 2008

So the best idea would be to purchase a new Convergence board which is the piece i took a picture of and replace it in the tv. I found it on ebay for 75 dollars free shipping. Does that sound like a good price? Will the ICs come on the board also? What are you ideas? <==== is new with TVs but I am a computer technician so i have a technical background which is good.
here is a link to the part

I installed the new board and it fixes the problem but it is still slightly off and i cannot get it to align perfect. It has the perfect focus option but does not get passed 37%. Is there anymore advice you could offer?

I'm having the same issue but with a different model. I took the back plate off the TV last night to try and get ot the board described in pictures posted earlier but, wow! Look competely different. Could you please describe to me the correct board to remove for convergence in a Phillips model # 60pp9202/17f, serial # ya1c0503022889, chassis dptv305f with a mfg date of Jan 05? Also the correct IC chip part number that I'll need to replace? Thanks,

They are large ICs two of them that fail and cause convergence issues. I am almost 95% sure thats the cause of your trouble as 95 times out of a hundred its the ICs that wear out the other 5 times its the convergence board, as the ICs are not located on the convergence board. They do require basic soldering to install. The Ics are available at the link I posted above and come with free instalation instructions with pictures plus they provide free on line tech support with instant messageing if you should need more assistance when doing the repair.

You would most likely be better getting a new board as that indivates that alot of voltage passed through those ICs and the entire Convergence circuits could be compromised.

If the board is new thats a good price for it. I would contact the ebay seller through an email on ebay and verify that the board is new and that the ICs are included. as you can get the new convergence module at the following link for 72.00 and thats for a brand new board

Currently, the red and blue color alignment is off and I am unable to adjust this. There is a red shadow with a blue hue. Have tried to realign the colors but can not get the red to move.

Hi. My Sony Videoscope XBR's Convergence Allignment

I happen to share this same problem. The alignment of the gridlines on the standard convergence panel are completely abnormal, and if I attempt to auto-adjust the TV, it flashes different colors on the sides of the screen , and then turns off the convergence settings.

Adjusting the convergence after replace convergence chips

Hello fmnii,

Believe it or not the easy part was the replacing of the convergence amplifiers. Now for the hard part, static and dynamic convergence of the TV. To do this, what I usually do is not trust the onboard cross-hatch and alignment patterns, for this I use a signal/pattern generator to create the cross-hatch and alignment patterns. I follow the static convergence instructions first, and then the dynamic convergence instructions. This process taks about 6 - 12 hours (Yes 6 - 12 hours) if done correctly. I say use the instructions because each TV set is different. It sounds like you have your static convergence well in hand and you just need to do the dynamic.

If you can, try to get a signal/pattern generator (I use the VA62A).

I wish you well,

Thank you,

Picture in out of alignment when hdmi on looks like a 3d movi

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

>>>Solution<<<<

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Red horizonal convergence tilts instead of adjusting evenly.

For your hitachi unit one of the convergence IC is bad along with couple of low value resistance on
the convrgence board.

Good luck

Covergence Problem

What exactly are you seeing on the screen? If one of the colors is only slightly off, you should be able to correct it with the standard menu. If one or more of the colors has suddenly taken a dramatic shift, and is curved inward at a side, it means that one of your convergence output IC's has burned out. You should not attempt to realign the convergence if this happens because you will only be messing up all the settings, and when the new IC is installed, the picture will still be out of alignment.

Convergence

One of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. A good rule here is to go ahead and replace both STK392-110 IC's with the new improved STK392-150's. If you have never replaced convergence IC's and realigned convergence circuits, allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
