Question about NetGear WG311T 802.11g/b (wg311tge) Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Vista installations I have recently purchased a brand new computer that has windows vista installed. I am trying to install my netgear WG311T internal wireless adapter onto it. However after following all it's initial instructions to install the CD, turn off the comp, install the hardware and then turn the comp back on, the wizard does not initiate the next stage of the network set up. Windows also does not seem to recognise the device when trying to set up a network with it. Yet does recognise it in the device manager list. I know the card works and does so on a vista set up. Any ideas?

Unfortunately that won't work as it only picks up the netgear device in the device manager and nowhere else. So when I get to selecting a network as advised through the link...It doesn't detect any networks to select. And specifically in the device manager it says when you click on the device: "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31). Regardless of either of the four drivers on it's disk I use, it comes up with the same thing.

Stuck At Detecting Adapter

Disconnect it, remove any software that was installed and restart the computer. Do not connect the device until you finish installing the device's software or the software installation prompts you to connect the device.
If that doesn't work, here's Microsoft's solution:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
If that doesn't work, go to Netgear's website for support and/or post the problems in the forums.
I hope this helps.

Hello mccree08,

The installed network adapters can be viewed in the windows device manager which can be accessed through the windows control panel as follows:

•Opening the Control Panel
The Windows Control Panel can be opened by:
Selecting Start > Control Panel (on Windows Vista)
- OR -
Start > Run > Type 'Control' and select OK (on Windows XP)

•In the Control Panel, Select Device Manager

•In Device Manager, Select 'Network Adapters'

The netgear wpn 511 adapter will appear there if it is correctly installed.

Nothing!

Was this card bought brand new? Make sure the card is seated properly in the slot and look for the lights to flash when you first start the PC. If that doesn't work, try switching the card to a different slot and restarting to see if the computer detects it on it's own afterwards. If nothing still appears, you may have bought a faulty card.
