Question about Printers & Copiers

Print Head error

My father-in-law (who recently passed away) bought a brand new printer from Kodak this past Christmas, and one day last week we were changing the ink cartridges (new cartridges came with the printer) and an error saying that the print head was missing or was not installed correctly popped up. We've tried taking the print head out and carefully putting it back in, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, unplugging everything, and we still get the same error. We've even called that 800 number and they sent us a new print head, and surprise....still have the same error.
Now before we spend a few hundred dollars to get the geek squad to help fix it, or spend yet anouther few hundred for a new printer...please say one of you guys have a solution.

Greetings Morbica,

As a member here I drop in now and then. I saw your post and I thought I would review.

Since the time of shipment has passed, your only option is to replace the print head again. Before I help with that, please check the following. Did you make sure the print head was snapped into place and secure. Also, did you make sure the ink carts were snapped into place. These actions can make a difference.

Once you have completed these actions and things are still not working for you, let me know. You can write to me at ronbaird@kodak.com or leave a message here.

Talk to you soon,

Ron Baird - the friendly Kodak guy

.i used to have get good bright colored pix but

Try removing the print head again, removing the ink and re-cleaning the print head. Once it has been cleaned leave it to air dry for a few days before returning it to your printer and make sure the ink cartridges are fully clipped in. Let me know how you get on.

After installing a new back and a new color ink cartridge, cleaning the head and callibrating everything still prints in pink tone

You may need a new print head. Do the calibration procedure for your 5000 series model, found on this link.

Dead print head

the reason why the printhead is going bad is because this was a problem with the printer since it was launched since day one all tech support will do is replace the print head but if u call them and ask them to escalate the case to a manager and you need to act very irate then maybe and just maybe you should get a refund.
the printhead keep rubbing against the bottom of the carriage in this printer causing the contacts to wear off really fast and thats the problem ur facing ,it was one factory faulted printer that was launched

Canon MP530 U052 Error

The dreaded U052 error means that the 'chip' fitted to the Cartridge is not responding .. Canon (like all printer mfgs) makes all it's profit from selling Ink .. so they fit these chips to try to prevent you refilling or using a 'compatible' replacement cartridge

You have to move the chip from the Canon cartridge to the 'compatible' and (it seems) the chips are particularly sensitive to static / damage .. many people end up blowing the chips during the swap over .. or even when fitting the original genuine cartridges to a brand new unit for the first time ...

If the unit is brand new, take it back and demand a replacement ... if you have just swapped over the chip onto a compatible cartridge, you can try buying a genuine Canon cartridge (which will have a new chip) = hopefully that will do the trick

NB. I have seen some suggestions that canon's have a 'Service Mode' that allows you to disable the cartridge chip checking and allow you to print no matter what .. however I've never found any details ... perhaps some-one else has the details ??
