"F05" is an indication of a water temperature sensor (NTC) error. Check the Water Temperature Sensor and check electrical connections to the Water Temperature Sensor.

To access, you will have to UNPLUG your washer and remove the lower access panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: If you place a block of wood under each front foot of the washer, it will make access to the screws much easier. If the panel sticks, a tap on the sides will knock it free. The panel will drop down then come off. The sensor (NTC) is located at the base of the wash tub in the front on the heating element. This will be a small square shaped plug between the heating element terminals. Unplug the wire harness and take a resistance check. Readings will be as follows:

Temperature Meter Reading
32°F (0°C) 35.9 K ohms
86°F (30°C) 9.7 K ohms
104°F (40°C) 6.6 K ohms
122°F (50°C) 4.6 K ohms
140°F (60°C) 3.2 K ohms
158°F (70°C) 2.3 K ohms
203°F (95°C) 1 K ohms

Roughly...around 9K ohms at room temperature if I'm reading the chart correctly. Take readings as listed and also double check the connector to make sure it is not oxidized. Try cleaning the plug and reconnecting to see if the error code goes away. If not, you will probably have to replace the sensor.

The part number is 8181705 and listed as "NTC" at Searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and you will find the part under the "Tub and Basket" heading. The best part only costs $9.75.

If your items are stuck inside the washer and pushing the "Pause/Cancel" button does not unlock the door, you will need to pull the manual release to open the door. With the bottom panel removed, reach up behind the front panel near the door latch. Locate the bottom of the door latch and you will find a round tab. Pull this tab straight down and the door will unlock.

I hope this helps you. Please post back if you need further assistance.

How to fix f-05 error

Error F05 on some Hotpoint washing machines means the pressure switch has "jammed" on, so the machine thinks it's full of water and refuses to spin. It may indeed be full of water - but not necessarily.
This error code is used on some Indesit washing machines too
Before a washing machine spins the laundry it needs a signal that the water has pumped away successfully so it knows that it's safe to spin. This error indicates that for various possible reasons it's not getting that signal.
This can be caused by a pump fault or blockage in the filter, but if this is the case then clearly when the fault occurs it should be stuck full of water or at least still have a fair amount inside.

My washing machine keeps displaying error code F17 and won't go on. Does anyone know what this means and what I can do to fix it?

F17 indicates no water coming into the condensing chamber during drying.

Unplug the appliance.

Take the top off.

Check to see if the condensing chamber below the heating chamber is blocked.

F05 means that the pressure switch is jammed on full.
You need to check the pump is pumping out o/k, and if there is a filter, check and clean.

Error message "F5"?

F5 is a Water Temperature Sensor Error If during the water heating step in wash cycle, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range, or the heating element circuit has failed, the "F/05" error code will be displayed. If you are savvy enough to troubleshoot yourself, you can check the Water Temperature Sensor, Heating Element and Element Relay. You should also check connections to the Sensor, Heating Element and Relay. As far as servicing goes, Sears and Whirlpool have service contracts on these appliances as the Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet are the same machine made by Whirlpool. I hope this helps you.
