Question about Acer PC Desktops

3 Answers

When I launch internet explorer it starts to go to yahoo home page but does not come up for quite a while, most times it gives me a calling id has stopped working message and I get a pop up from windows that I can cancel the program so I hit cancel and it then comes up with the yahoo home page and the tab for the acer page comes up does not come up finally the windows calling id has stopped working pops up and I again cancel however it keeps trying to access the acer page. it is a vicous circle that seems unending - eventually it locks up and I have to shut down the system by using the cntl, alt, del shutdown. As i am typing this I am having a problem with this I am typing along and it pops back up a row or two and I have to relocate to type again. However, since I started typing about the cursor problem it has quit acting up. I actually typed these last sentences in a very short amount of time. I had spent over 10 minutes typing the first part. If this keeps happening I will never (here it goes again It is jumping around again ) be able to correspond with you on this subject. I last used this laptop 2 weeks ago and it worked excellantly and no one else has used it.

Hello kreigers,

It looks as if you have some kind of malware/virus on your computer.
I would recommend you get an online scan from HERE.

Its online, and its free. It is also very good. I found quite a few malware on my own system, even after running my regular anti-virus program. Give it a shot. It will help.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please post them here.

If you are satisfied with my solution or have no further queries, please take a moment to "Accept" this solution.

Thank you for using Fixya!

BTW, I had the same cursor jumping problem, whenever I type anywhere, be it in posts or even in Word, etc. The online scan helped.

Hi,
Initially, pls try download Mozilla Firefox and used that rather than IE.

As to the IS's issues, do a full virus scan. Additonally, download Ad-Aware and run it "full". Thereafter pls post back results.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

If you are having problem getting to Mozilla's Firefox download page and/or Ad-Aware, you can use Windows Explorer instead if Internet Explorer. To open Windows Explorer, pls click on Start, Run. On next small window type "explorer" less the quotes, click OK. The address bar would work just like in IE.,

Thanks Ekse for the point out, though the suggestion for the use of Firefox was as posted initially so as to attend to the problem "If this keeps happening I will never (here it goes again It is jumping
around again ) be able to correspond with you on this subject
    "

Do you have the restore discs for your computer? Please use them there seems to be alot messed up in there.

The restore discs / windows reinstall would most likely solve the problem unless its hardware.

Set homepage

If your question is .... how to make a specific URL (e.g. www.yahoo.com) as your home page on your browser ... here's how:

If you're using Internet Explorer browser, click on theToolsicon1.png (menu item) ... and at the bottom of the drop-down window, click on "Internet Options". A (smaller) window will open, showing under the General (tab) ... your current home page. Simply edit (or add) into that (top HOME PAGE) window, your URL (e.g. www.yahoo.com) then, click on APPLY at the bottom right corner.

Now when you open your Internet Explorer (browser), it will go directly to www.yahoo.com

This process is similar with other browsers ...

How do I make yahoo my home page

Go to Yahoo.com. Click on Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab.In the section under Home page, click on the Use current button. Click OK.

This is assuming that you are using Internet Explorer. If you are using a different web browser it might be slightly different.

Yahoo wanted as home bace

I assume you use a PC and the Internet Explorer browser.
Go to the Internet Explorer Tools menu, select Internet Options, click on General tab, look for "Home Page". Here there is an address box where you can type in the home base that you want. For example if you want Yahoo, you put in http://www.yahoo.com/
save and close and it's done. so simple. :)

I want to instal google home page

For Internet Explorer 6, launch internet explorer and go to menu bar-> tools-> Internet Options. In the first tab, you will get a text box in the top. Enter www.google.com there and press Ok button at the bottom of the window. You are done.

To launch internet options in internet explorer version 7 and version 8, the menu bar has to be shown. If you can see the menu bar, follow the same steps as mentioned above. If menu bar is not shown, let me know, I'll help you.

How do I install my Logitech webcam? My niece uses Yahoo Messenger, but when I tried to install it, my home page chanaged to Yahoo and numerous popups appear daily.

Hello,

Let me explain the procedure on how to install the Webcam.

Procedure is same for all Brand Webcams.

First disconnect the Webcam from the Computer. Insert the Webcam driver disks and follow onscreen steps to complete the installtion.

In between the installtion, it will ask you to connect the Webcam. There you have to connect the Webcam, then small installtion will run and Cam will be ready to use.

If it won't ask you to connect the Webcam, then after completing the installtion you can connect the cam.

Comming to the Home page and POPups issue.

While installing the Webcam driver by following the onscreen steps, somewhere there will be checks for "Set Yahoo as home page" or "Install yahoo or Google tool bar etc" you have to uncheck all those kind of things while installing the driver software.

Anyhow, I will also provide steps on how to change the Internet explorer home page and Block POPups.

Here are the steps to change the Home page of Internet Explorer:

1. Open Internete explorer.

2. Click on Tools Menu--Internet Options.

3. Under Homepage, Enter the Website you want to set as default and press Enter (Eg: www.google.com)

4. Click Apply--ok

To block the POPUPs:

1. Open Internete explorer.

2. Click on Tools Menu--Internet Options.

3. Click on Privacy Tab

4. Check box for BLOCK POPUPS

5. Click Apply--Ok.

Hope that helps you!!

Reply if you need more information.
