TOC Hi I have just replaced my fan oven element but it wont work ( I have replaced it a couple of times with no problems) the element proveder says it is probably the thermal overload connector (TOC) and not the element. Where is the TOC, what does it look like, can it be reset and do I need to buy a new one? Hope you can help Cheers Tarzantony

Thanks for that. Here's the thing, the oven light and fan both work ok. By testing for continuity the power stops at a little cube shaped object with spade connections on either side, the thing is about 3/4 of an inch in size, is this the toc? There are letters on the object:
Z/-2/43 followed by 10/250, where can In get a replacement?

On closer inspection the letters are: Z42/43.

Hi there if your toc is at fault you will have no oven function at all ie. fan, light, and timer display. i would first check your timer is not set to auto and is also got the time set, failing that your thermostat may be at fault.

Check the power panel on your house for the circuit breaker for the oven. It will be two breakers with their handles joined so idf one trips so will the other. Good idea, but sometimes one will trip but not the other. This allows the 120 volt parts like the fan and oven light to work but the heating element won't work because there is no 240 volts for the element. You can try resetting the breaker, but in my experience replacing the breaker will ultimately fix the problem

This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
  1. Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
  2. If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
  3. When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Sounds like the fan motor has failed altogether, and as a result the oven element has probably blown again due to overheating of the element.A ew fan and element is more than likely going to be needed to correct the problem.

Hi right my indesit 29229 fan oven is not working it blow the power in the house now the top oven is work but the bottom one wont heat up the fans working and thats it do you think its the element thats...

To blow the house trips it must be the element

Thermostats do not normally go short circuit.

The elements can be replaced quite easliy and cheaply

I would check that the fan is turning freely before you buy the element

Oven not heating

You need to replace the fan oven element.
access to it is by removing the rear panel in the oven, there you will see the element.
Plz rate my solution.

Oven not heating up

Hi.
If the fan is working o/k, then in all probability the fan oven element has failed.

A common problem with fan assisted ovens.

It is a fairly easy job to replace same

I found I have this exact problem. Same bake preheat issue: I can bake if I set broil first. However, the oven doesn't work if I press bake first. The control board has already been replaced a couple times over the years. Is this another replacement??

Hi there,

Not sure that I can help but will certainly try. You need to check to see if the power is getting to the oven. As the grill, light and fan are working it seems that it is. With the Oven not heating up I would suggest that it is possibly the Oven Element. Usually to check these you need to remove the cover inside the oven and also the back cover. You will probably find the power is getting to the element but the element is not working and needs replacing. Before removing it MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE OVEN. Should only be 2 or 3 wires going to the element which will need to be removed before removal. Usually only a couple of screws hold the element in and once removed you may have to wiggle the element a little to get it out. Replacement is just a reversal of the removal procedure. I had to replace the one in our oven 2 weeks ago as we had the same problem. It is fine now and was only the element. Just MAKE SURE you TURN OFF THE POWER before removing the element. Hope this helps.

regards
Bryan
