Light faded out on face plate X590 kenwood

Has there been a solution tot his problem yet. Mine just crapped out today it faded in out one time later. is there a part or a place to fix it. Kenwood should back this unit. My last unit is still working into its 12 year with no problems. Almost sorry i switched for the Ipod functions.

Exact same problem with my KDC-X590. On a rare occasion I actually took it out of my car overnight (which happened to be about 8 degrees that night) and the very next day there were no lights. Everything functioned fine and the display lit up & went off 3 or 4 times since then but it's been off for a couple of months now. Luckily I have the remote control functions memorized but it still sucks to have this expensive head unit that doesn't light up!

    Any fix yet??

Thanks for posting a fix! I'm comfortable enough to solder if it's not extremely delicate. What do you think the difficulty is for a novice solderer?

Also, do you have any referenceslike a picture or diagram of the board? I'm assuming you are talking about the main board in the unit as opposed to opening up the face plate?

Thanks again!

Here is the solution:
There are a series of surface mount resistors in the front right corner of the main board on the top side of the board. Front right while facing the unit looking in. Those surface mount resistors need to be resoldered, they are heat stressed. If you know how to solder, go ahead and do it. If not, I adise you to take it to a shop to have them reflowed. There are a line of them all in series with each other in that right front corner of the main board. That is the only way to fix this problem, have the solder reflowed.

there are about 8 - 10 surface mount resistors inside of the deck that need to be resoldered. They are on the front right of the board with the face toward you.

Press the [MENU] button for at least one second. Push the control knob toward [AM] or [FM] to select "DEMO." Press the control knob for two seconds to alternate between "DEMO ON" and "DEMO OFF."

Your KDC-X590

I have the kenwood x590. I have the lid open and the Cd mech out and looking straight down into the circuit board with the face pointed at me. Im looking at the right front corner and i see two two resistors labeled c20 and c18. To the right of those on the very edge of the board i have a row of chicklet looking things with number on top named 2r7. They are all named the same thing. Most of the number on my board starts with a C there are a few W's Q's.

Im guess the serial number on the board is j76-0169-02 x34-4150-10

Help.

Re: Repair response

if you are talking about the problem with the display out, yes the main board is right under the cd mech. All you need to take out is the cd mech, not the board if you are wanting the reflow the solder on the surface mount resistors in the front right side (with the radio facing you).

If you are talking about something else, just let me know. This question was not addressed to anybody specifically. But this is a comon problem with this model. I just came across this question today.

To ask a specific person a question you need to click the "Ask me" link right below that experts name.

If this was not eant for me, I am sorry, but I thought maybe it was.

Hey did u find the curcut # on the kenwood kdc-x590 if so pleas let us know !!! thanks for ur time

Are you talking about the circuit that lights the display? If so, you need to resolder the surface mount resistors in the front right corner on the top of the board. Front right while facing unit with top off and CD deck out. you will see a series of surface mount resistors and they all are connected in series. All of them need to be resoldered. That will make the display work again.

Has anyone found a repair for this? My screen just died this morning...I've had it in my car for about 30K miles and I REALLY like the head unit...it's still working fine, but I can't even begin to try to mess with the EQ, or figure out what MP3 I'm going for without the screen :(

Do you have a Ipod shuffle?
Is the deck on random?/shuffle?

Try pressing the small reset button on the deck, its small a small black button you would need a pencil tip to reset!

Hope it helps,
Don
