PS3 picture doesn't work

I had my PS3 hooked up to my hd tv through the HDMI plug and I unplugged the system and moved it to a different house. The tv doesn't have HDMI so i used the AV cables that came with it to hook it up and the system turns on fine and everything but no picture or sound....is there some setting I need to change in order to use the AV connections? I don't have access to my tv with the HDMI connection right now so if there is a setting I need how do I do it with out being able to see anything?
Please Help!!!

  • sportsadam18 May 23, 2008

i figured it out!!! If you hold down the front power button until it goes off then flip the switch on the back and continue holding the front power button when u flip the switch back on it starts loading and resets it to the standard hook up.

    Good luck ppl

I can't tell you how many times i've done EXACTLY what everyone says to change it back to a standard TV.

I've held the button, heard the beeps, done everything!!
But i still get no picture on screen.

For the love of GOD help!!!

Alright I went thru the ps3 faqs, here is my solution. You have to do the following.

1. When the system is in standby mode (power button is red), you press and HOLD the button for about 10 seconds, basicaly until it turns off again. It may be more than 10 seconds but not more than 20. Yes I know it sounds a lot but trust me. Then simply press the power button again (remember it must go from red to green to red again, and u will hear a rough noise as if the system was turned off i.e. like you unplugged it). So press the power button, wait a bit for it to adjust the outpt settings and you should be good to go. :)

I have a similar problem but my ps3 wont work with any cable, not even HDMI but lookinf for a solution I read that if you connect your ps3 to the tv with the composite calbes and hold the power button for 5 seconds the system should go back to standard resolution. Didnt work for me but neither did using the HDMI cable, im frustrated.

SOURCE: PS3 - HDMI to SD change issues

While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.Good Luck!

SOURCE: PS3 doesn't connect to tv

Try holding down the power button for 3-4 seconds when you turn it on.
This should allow you to reset the AV inputs on the ps3

SOURCE: PS3 doesn't work with tv anymore

If your ps3 is working with the HDMI cable and not with the AV output cable and you want to use your old tv that only has av you must first turn the ps3 on using a tv with hdmi input and go into settings and restore the system to default settings and it should automatically restart. (when i did this, i quickly turned the ps3 off after the restard and plugged in the av cable so it would first start the system with av cables, not sure what will happen if you leave the hdmi cable in, i assume will leave you in the same problem as in the beginning) hope this helps.

Connecting Ps3 with philips tv (full hd) when i got hd cable in, and click to switch so the ps3 uses hd to show things and i than switch over to the channel i plugin the hdmi cabel it gives blac kscreen

If it's the first time using your PS3, use the composite cables that came with it. Turn on the PS3 go to video settings and switch the input to HDMI. After you've switched to HDMI, turn the PS3 off and connect your HDMI cable, go back to video settings and change the resolution to 1080p. If this isn't the first time you've used HDMI for your PS3, make sure your T.V. is on the correct input. If the T.V. is on the correct input, try switching the HDMI cable to a different input. If that doesn't work try using a different HDMI cable, testing different HDMI connections if you're still getting the black screen. If none of those work then it's probably a problem with the PS3, but just to make sure try plugging something else with HDMI to see if that works. If another HDMI device works, then it's your PS3, if it doesn't then it could be a problem with your HDMI connections on the T.V.

I plugged in my PS3 using an HDMI cable and i get no feedback

If you just bought the PS3 use your composite cables that came with the system. Turn the PS3 on and go to the video settings, set up video input to HDMI. After you've done that plug your HDMI back into your PS3 and try turning it on. If that works go back to video settings and change the resolution to 1080p. If that doesn't work make sure your T.V. is on the same input that the HDMI cable is plugged in. If it is and still doesn't work try switching to a different HDMI port. If switching to a different HDMI port doesn't work try a new HDMI cable. If the new HDMI cable doesn't work then there is a problem with the port on the PS3 which would require a repair.

I have a ps3 that i tried to hook up to our emmerson tv through an hdmi cable and the tv screen says format not supportedf why?

If you recently moved the PS3 from one tv to another, it's setup to work on that other tv.
Press and hold the power button on the PS3 until you hear a beep. This should default the video output to whatever is plugged in and the PS3 should output normally via the HDMI connection.

No video or sound

Well...I assume that you are using A/V at your house and HDMI at your friends house? The best way to fix it is to hold the power button down for 3-5 seconds and you will hear 1 beep then continue to hold until you hear 2 beeps. When you hear 2 beeps let off and this will take you to the restore menu and resets your video settings. The funny thing with a PS3 it will automatically pick up that you have an HDMI cable hooked up but not that you have an A/V cable. So when you hook up your AV cable it still boots in HDMI format and it has to be reset. Don't buy your cable yet it will do the same thing.

Thanks,
Ced

PS3 not working on reg tv's after HDMI use on LCD HD tv

Shelley,  the fix for this is simple! Hold down the power button for about 5 seconds and the system will beep. This resets the video setting for your ps3 from HD too whatever the current cables are that you are using too hook up too the tv. This works on my PS3 which I just bought about 3 months ago and should work with the older ones.

Unable to use PS3 on HD channel

1. Connect PS3 to your TV
2. Select the Correct HDMI input on your TV
3. Press and hold the [power] button on the PS3
4. perform setup.

These are the steps to setup the video output for the PS3, It is possible that it is set to a resolution that your TV does not support.

If this doesn't work, you may want to contact Sanyo to ask if they have some protection circuit for the HDMI input. Some manufactures TV's will deactivate(turn OFF) the HDMI input under certain conditions. Unplugging the TV or some other procedure usually turns it back ON.

Wesitinghouse 37" all of a sudden wont work with hdmi cables plugged in. only picture with component cables in. ps3 wont work individually either currently have it directly into cable source and everything...

Same problem I had... My problem was with any HD input from PS3 (only HD device I have), the PS3 was fine on other televisions so I determined that it must be a problem with the TV in question. I fixed this problem by unplugging the TV, letting it sit for about a minute and then plugging back in.
