I am currently trying to update Burnout: Paradise City on my PS3 via the automatic update service, but I constantly have the following error: The system prompts me upon startup that I must update the Burnout software, it then cycles my video settings, quirk of my 42" 1080p LCD I would imagine, then tries to initiate a download. The screen promtply goes blank, the PS3 stays on, the controls do not respond such that I can see anything on screen, and it does not go away. I left it like this for three hours. It is connected to the internet through a wireless network but can update system software perfectly. I noticed this issue a while back with Rock Band, but it went away the next time I connected my console to the internet, no idea how. Any assistance is greatly appreciated and rewarded with candy*.

I have just recently purchased my PS3 but what the problem sounds like is a link failure. I work on computers for a living and have seen this problem alot when the link wasn't fully developed or is missing critical information. I would try surfing the internet with your PS3 and going to the games web site to get the download or some other 3rd party website and try downloading it and installing it that way. You can find almost anything with a serach engine, so if you don't know a direct website then try that.
If that doesn't work ask some of your friends if they have ever updated that game, because I have noticed that after some of the PS3's firmware updates some older games will not update because a conflict in information.
hope that helps!!
p.s. my favorite candy is reeces lol
