How do you reset the logic?
The welcome should disappear when the player is ready and it usually shows the channel for the TV when on the HDD or DVD.
There is no dvd in the machine at present and I couldn't get it out if there was one.

I HAVE SONY RDR-GX330, IT IS STUCK WITH " WELCOME" ON LED.

    OCCASIONALLY THE FAN WORKS.

EVEN THE TRAY WILL NOT OPEN.

The same thing is happening with my RDR-HX720 Sony DVD recorder. It's
stuck on welcome when turned on, and won't respond to anything ie.
can't open the DVD tray or press DVD/HDD etc...So the solution suggested won't work as I can't open the machine to try anything.

My RDR-HX720 currently has the exact same problem - it won't load any further than the 'welcome' message. This has happened 3 or 4 times in the last little while, every time we have a blackout and it loses power. The previous times it has started up with no warning after a few days unplugged.

Enter the service mode by unplugging the AC lead from the back then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to factory reset and press OK, when this is done exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. all should then be OK. hope this helps?

Adding to my earlier solution. Also check the SATA cable and replace if necessary. this is also a common contributor to the permanent 'welcome' message error. the whole operation of these recorders rely on a fully working HDD and SATA / power connecting leads. any one of these failing will leave the recorder virtually dead. hope this helps?

Adding to my earlier solution. Also check the SATA cable as this is a common contributor to the permanent 'welcome' message error. the whole operation of these recorders rely on a fully working HDD and SATA cable. if any one of these fail, the recorder will be virtually dead!

if you get a permanent 'welcome' message on switch-on, or even a flashing 'HDD ERROR' message, it's a 90% chance the SATA cable is at fault. don't dismiss the HDD as faulty!

    hope this helps?

I had the same problem, my recorder was past it's warranty though. So I opened the case (4 screws on sides & 3 [silver] screws on rear) then unsecured the HDD (4 screws with rubber grommets and 1 screw with thin metal flange) I then disconnected the data and power cable (as illustrated on HDD) powered the whole unit up and got nothing (obviously) reconnected the HDD and plugged the unit in. It powered up and then turned itself off. I then turned it on using the power button and voila, it worked perfectly! All HDD stored videos were still there too! The unit even held the same time.

If it is saying "welcome " it is <on> but maybe the logic needs a reset
It may be a dirty DVD disk >>> clean with soap and warm water and dry with a cotton towel >> then try again.
this also may be a dirty lens
>>> compressed air blown inside the load bay sometimes will remove the dust build up
Hope this helps.

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/RDR-HXD890/downloads/FW_DVDR_124 Make sure the ribbon cable going to the laser head from the main board is seated correctly at both ends. Use a scope to verify signals present at the input to the laser. If not then find where it stops on the main board. If it is present then replace the laser mechanism.

SONY RDR-HX950 is showing WELCOME in display at startup, nothing else happends

i have a sony HXD-1065 which was doing exactly the same thing.
i searched loads of forums to get some idea of the cause but nothing.
to cut a long story short, i put the recorder away in a cupboard for approx 4 months then just as i was about to list it on ebay as faulty i thought i'd just switch it on and see what happens and it came on and loaded up as it should with no problem so i unplugged it and plugged it back in several times to see if the permanent welcome message came back but it just loaded and has worked perfect for the last 5 or 6 months.
i found out later that the memory capacitor needs to fully discharge before it can reset itself on power-up.
i'm not sure exactly how long this takes but it took me 4 months to find it works again.

My dvd player rdr-hxd860 seems to be frozen on 'welcome'

I've had the same problem. I've actually unplugged the unit and it's been unplugged for probably about two weeks. When I reconnected the power this morning the problem persisted where the DVD Recorder was stuck on the Welcome Screen. As a last ditch effort I pressed and held the power button for 10 to 15 seconds until the word "Welcome" dissapeard of the screen and back on. This seems to have reset the unit. I know I should have tried this a long time ago. So much for reading the instruction manual! I'm just glad it's working again!

I have recorded a film onto the Sony RDR HXD 860 HDD and then I burned it onto a DVD. I took the DVD and inserted it into my PC and would like to know how to convert that into a DivX

Hi
You need a DVD convertor program that converts to Divx. There is a range of freeware available on the net.
Check out "freeware.com" or in the search box "freeware search"

Sony rdr-vx560 systems menu won't come on screen

It depends on which DVD you are stuck. Use the following numbers to resolve the problem. DVD1 = 1, DVD2 = 2, Aand DVD3 = 3.

Please hold the ENTER button. While holding down the enter button press the corresponding number button (ie, 1 or 2 or 3)

Hold down the ENTER button and the relevant number button (1,2,or3) for more than 5 seconds.

I lost DVD Sony RDR-HXD 870 insructions. Could you possibly send it to me electronically?

Hi here is a link to Sony manuals downloads

http://support.sony-europe.com/manuals/index.aspx?site=odw_en_GB#m=RDR-HX870

It seems to be only available in Slovenian (probably only produced for that region?)

On right side of page select from drop down box 'home video', second drop down select 'dvd recorder' then in third drop down you should see your model number RDR-HX870 (without D). Download is 3.16mb.
Hope that helps and you can read Slovenian?
