Question about Apex Digital AT2702 27" TV

1 Answer

Image is too large for screen

I have an Apex AT2702 27" tube telly. The image is slightly larger than the screen area such that I can't see the those news tickers at the bottom of the screen and also can't see the content to the left like channel numbers on my tv guide. It's pissing me off.
Any ideas?

You would first have to look inside with the set on, Look in the neck of the tube (listed here as a standard TV) to see if the filaments are lit in the picture tube or not.

Vertical out transistors bad solder, or return linearity capacitor bad (a large capacitor, usually between 1000uf and 2200uf.) They're near where yellow and brown wires from picture tube connect to main board. They are larger transistors.

there are 2 fuses thatcould have blown inside the unit. you could have fried the power supply as well.

The first thing to do is check all of the PN junctions(Diodes, Bridge Rectifiers) in the Main Power Supply

Then move to the smaller ones, including the germanium and zeners

Also Capacitors are notorious for failing. These are sometimes easy to spot, look for bulging tops:

If you still have found nothing, look at the bottom side of the board, near the large connections and discolored areas for bad connections in the solder:

These adjustment controls are on the HT transformer. (Large plastic block on one corner of the main board - looks similat to a distributor cap on a car.) They are usually a plastic pot with a cross in the end to fit a flat blade screw driver. (This is the large blocks Philips TVs usually have three adjustments on the transformer:

  • Voltage
  • Screen high voltage
  • Focus
If you can locate these controls on the transformer, make a slight adjustment to each in turn, noting where the control position is before adjustment, so you can put it back.
When you have found the right control it will go brighter or darker.

Before adjustment, set the TV brightness control to about mid way. Ideally the screen should have a completely black image to show up the scanlines.

Adjust the control until the scanlines disappear. Do not over-adjust or the screen will appear too dark.

TAKE GREAT CARE not to touch anything other than the control. HIGH VOLTAGES

Its not worth the repair if you still want to go ahead i need to know two things:
Are you going to have a qualified electronics technician fit it?
If you are planning to fit it yourself are you a qualified electronics technician?
If you answered no to both of these questions i cannot tell you where to get one or how to fit it due to the massive amounts of danger involved.
