Question about Insignia IS-DVD1001 DVD Recorder/VCR

Worked a few times not anymore

I recorded a documentary onto a DVD R disc in my insignia DVD VCR recorder combo. I have since played the dvd on the same player a few times and it worked fine. But not anymore. Now the recorded disc only works on a different DVD player not the original recorder or my PC. What gives?

Sounds like the laser lens needs cleaned. Buy a DVD/CD cleaner disc and try it. If that don't work, it may need cleaned by a repair man. Also, if it had too much use, the lenses do wear out and need replaced.

Clean the disk with warm water and dish detergent >>> dry with a cotton towel >>> try again.
Hope this helps.
>>> check disk for excessive scratches .

How do I record a vhs onto a dvd on the combo?

I have researched the manual for this particular device and you will not be able to convert/record VHS tapes to DVD discs. You can however record content from a DVD to VHS tape as this model only has a readable disc player not a DVD burner. Sorry, but you may want to research DVD recorders that also have VHS playback.

I have three possibilities for you. One obvious answer would be that you are trying to record onto either a CD-R rather than a DVD-R, but I'm assuming that's not your problem. The second would be that you are trying to record onto a dvd that your recorder doesn't support (i.e. DVD-RW and your recorder only supports DVD-R). The final possibility is that the disc is a "dud." I have had this problem before and just had to try another disc. Good luck and let me know how it turns out, will you? Der Strom

How do I record my vhs tapes to Disk

I have done a lot of dubbing on my machine. First make sure the DVD is formatted. When you put in a new disc it should ask you if you want to initialize. Once that is done, switch to VCR mode. push play on the VCR then push the DUB button on the front of the machine. I hope it helps.

Some blank DVD+R discs will not read on my DVD player

The JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder / VCR Combo does not suppport DVD+R, only DVD-R, -RW etc.
At least mine only supports these formats, as when I first bought mine, I got some blank DVD's they were DVD+R.
I recorded a movie onto one on my PC, then tried playing it in the JVC unit... no go!
Instruction manual (available for D/load online) proved to me that I could not play +R disks!!

Model DRC 8310 RCA VCR/DVD player/recorder combo.

Did you put a splitter onto the cable signal? If yes, the signal is attenuated to much and there simply isn't enough signal for the recorder to decode. Call your cable company and request a signal amplifier be placed on your line. It's usually free.

I imagine you have checked the disk for scratches top and bottom, if so you can purchase a cd/dvd lens cleaner cdrom as the laser may need realigning and cleaning.

After you record, you must go to menu and finalize disc. Have you done that? jafreeb@excite.com
