I have motherboard P6VAP-A+, processsor PIII 1.0 GHz. I have two modules of RAM (128 MB each one). I have bought 512 MB at one module and installed it but computer could not work good. I had problems - it sudenly restarted, could not start and work properly. It is possible that I can not install 512 MB RAM at one module? or the module is damaged ? When I installed only the new 512 MB module the computer could not start windows and restarted e few times. I will be gratefull for your answer and help.

Simple test - leave only the 512 stick and go into the BIOS and see if the memory is correctly recognized. If it isn't then it's defective. If it is then download, burn and boot from
http://www.pclinuxos.com/
and run the memtest to be sure. If the memory is ok then you will have to reinstall Windows - it doesn't like the new memory.

Will 9500 GT either 512 mb or 1 gb work on intel la crosse D865GLC board..?? it has 3 pci slots 32-bit long..

Yes you can.
For 512 Mb RAM you can use a single 512 Mb memory module or two 256 Mb memory modules.
For 1 Gb RAM you can use a single 1 Gb memory module or two 512 Mb memory modules.

Ram 256 MB but show 128 MB pls send solution

If you have an existing 128Mb RAM module and inserted another 128Mb to give you a total of 256Mb and it stills shows 128Mb. Then the second RAM module may not be compatible or the second RAM module is faulty.
Try and use the same make and type RAM module as the original or insert a 512Mb RAM module instead of two 128Mb RAM modules. There is not much price gap between 512 and 256 Mb RAM.

I would like to nwom how much of memory this laptop support

The Thinkpad is installed with 128 MB SDRAM is standard, and is expandable to 512 MB
There are two memory slots, to expand it to 512 Mb you need two 256 Mb RAM modules and throw away the 128 Mb RAM module, but if you don't throw away this module and you insert a 256 Mb RAM module in the 2nd memory slot then your total memory would be 384 Mb.

Just need to know how to change the ram in my Sony Vaio PCG-v505ap

visit vaio manual in
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/
You can do this in two ways: opening your notebook and taking a look on the memory modules already installed (we will explain more about this later) or running a program like Everest (available on our download section). We ran Everest (going to Motherboard, Chipset, Memory Slots) on our notebook and found that it was using two 256 MB DDR-SDRAM PC2700 (“DDR333”) modules, for a total of 512 MB.

Figure 1: Checking your current memory configuration with Everest.
If your notebook has an empty memory slot, just go to the computer store and buy a new SO-DIMM module with the same technology (SDRAM or DDR-SDRAM) and speed of any capacity you want – of course you need to know the capacity limit of your notebook. You cannot install a 1 GB module in a notebook that only accepts modules up to 512 MB, for example. Our notebook – a Sony Vaio PCG-V505ECP – accepts modules up to 1 GB, for a total of 2 GB RAM, since it has two memory slots.
For example, if your notebook has one 256 MB module and an empty memory slot, if you buy and install another 256 MB module, it will have 512 MB RAM. If you buy and install a 512 MB module, your notebook will have 768 MB.
If your notebook already has two memory modules, you will need to remove one of the installed modules in order to install the new one. If the two modules have the same capacity, it doesn’t matter which one you will take away, but if they have different capacities, remove the one with smaller capacity. The new RAM capacity of your notebook will be of the capacity of the remaining module plus the capacity of the new module.
In our case, our notebook has two 256 MB modules. So we will remove one of these modules and install a new one on its place. We bought a 1 GB-module, so after installing it our notebook will have 1,280 MB RAM installed (memory math is tricky, since 1 GB equals to 1,024 MB not 1,000; so 1,024 MB + 256 MB = 1,280 MB).

1. If the memory bank is damage or covered with dust and dirt.
2. You have use not the same memory frequecy or memory brand.
3. Your mainboard couldnot support the capacity memory loaded.
Solutions: Please check this to solve the solutions.
1. Try to clean the memory bank or swap the other memory for testing
2.Try using the same brand and the same frequency of memory ex. if pc 400, pc 333, 133 or etc.they should be the same
3. try checking the mainboard support. if it accomodates your memory.

My 2themax mpotherboard EP-8KDA3I displays FF on the board while it runs but does not show anything on the monitor. I originally had a 512 DDR1 RAM and tried to put on 2 more RAM each 1GB. Was that what...

Hi.

Most probably yes, if it started happening after you installed new RAM modules. There are to possibilities:
  • one or more of RAM modules is faulty and will need to be replaced or removed
  • the motherboard does not support this layout of the modules which means that you will have to remove 512 MB module
I suggest you remove one of 1 GB memory modules and see if it works. If it does, than put it back and remove the other 1 GB module. If it works again, than motherboard does not support having one 512 MB module and two 1 GB modules at the same time.

RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.

I NEED RAM

Hi zouganeli,

You can install one, two or three modules. Each memory module can hold a maximum capacity of 128 MB of standard SDRAM chips, or 256 MB of registered SDRAM chips so maximum memory capacity is 384 MB of standard SDRAM memory or 768 MB registered SDRAM memory.

Hope that helps

Take care,

Michael
