Unless your skilled I would call a repair tech. Tell him the symptoms and get them to give you an estimate on doing the repair.

Hitachi Projection Color TV. The model # is 43UWX10B. It won't turn on - no picture or sound. Tech says it's the transformer, but parts aren't made anymore. Any idea where I could get part(s), how much...

I have worked on a lot of these and never seen a bad "transformer" try to get the tech to identify the location or part number needed. You can then search the internet or check with Hitachi.

To be honest the only way a tech could "KNOW" the part is bad is to replace it.

My guess is they could not find the problem and just wanted out and to collect whatever estimate fee they would get for looking at it.

A dead set can be caused by many things, rarely is it the transformer, I presume he is talking about the High Voltage transformer as that is the only major one in the set.

Hitachi 53UWX10BA has double image

This set uses two STK--392-110 ( you can also replace them with STK-392-150 which is a upgrade for the original type convergence chips)----You can buy both on Ebay for less than 13 dollars plus shipping.

Both chips need to be replaced and any damaged resistors around them located and replaced also--most of the time the set just needs both chips replaced and then adjusted.

If you cannot do this repair yourself--look in your area--most shops TRY to charge 300-400 for this kind of repair----I do lots of them here--did two Hitachi2.gif sets with this problem yesterday for 200-250 total.

MAKE SURE WHOEVER you get to do this changes BOTH CHIPS--SOME techs will come out and just replace one--in a short time the set will have the same kind of trouble again---Now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---shop around for someone who will do this repair IN YOUR HOME--almost any good tech can do it in about 1 hour---if they say it "has to go to the shop" keep looking.

The chips are black(2 1/2 inches wide and about 1 1/2 inches tall with 18 pins) and will have the STK number printed on them in white--they are located on either one large metal heat sink2.gif with fins or two smaller heatsinks that are side by side.

If you have ANY questions or need help reply to this post here.

Lots of Blue shadows off to side. concaved picture almost

HI, this is a failed convergence chip that is located on the convergence board. it will need to be replace ASAP. you can just replace the chip or , you can order a new board.

Replacing the chip can be a rough job if you don't have tech experience. if you are a fluid tech and you can solder and know your way around a circuit board, just replacing the chip will cost less. if you are not an experienced TV tech, i recommend a service call to the nearest TV tech to replace the convergence board.

Our samsung tv was making loud noises. the color would get distorted and it would turn off on its own. after unplugging it and plugging it back in, we watched it for a short while and we heard a shatter...

That was probably your color wheel being destroyed. This repair is not for the DIY'er you need to see a tech for thione believe me... The light engine housing needs to be removed justy above the color wheel and a new color wheel needs to be installed. Wheels are not cheap 2-3 hundred dollars and you would be surprised how much tear-down the tech will have to do to get at the wheel housing. But believe me it's well worth it...
If you have any problem locating a good reputable tech for the repair you might try NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealers Assn.) or let me know about what city/state you're located in and I can recommend someone.
Good Luck!

No Picture on my Toshiba 42h81

It won't be a bulb or something simple from the front. My guess is that the convergence cirsuit is having a problem.. Several pico fuses you could check are F850 F851 which are 5 amp p/n # 23144842 and F852 is a 2 Amp p/n #23144841... This will indicate that the convergence amps are probably defective and/or some ring cracked joints are causing some problems, like jumper 010 in front of L7711... You really need a tech to repair this unless you have some hidden electronics talent. Tracing you'll need a dmm and scope at the least, not to mention soldering station and all the obvious other equipement.
You might try the NESDA site to locate a tech near you if you live in the states. http://www.nesda.com/locator/state_search.php
That way you can be assured of getting a reliable, highly trained technician for the job.

Pip module

Your model is the VZ8 that doesnt have the pip board it has an IC for control of the PIP. So your problem has to be in the video or deflection circuits You can get a service manual off this link that I am part owner of if you need one. We also help by giving free support to help with the diagnosis and locating parts. This is a free service when you purchase a manual and we email the manual within minutes of placing your order. Its listed as VS60707 and sells for 10.99 its the full factory service manual.
Heres the link if your interested.
