There are some virus that disable or keep you from installing anti-virus software. You might go to an online virus scan page such as Microsoft's http://www.microsoft.com/protect/products/computer/safetyscanner.mspx
If you can find out what virus has blocked the installation and can get a specifig virus removal tool from symantec.com, remove the virus and then you can install your virus software. AVG as mentioned above is a good free virus software.

Can't get rid of the ask toolbar

It probably installed with another program or maybe a anti-virus software.

Now if it won't remove, is missing from add remove programs, then you can stop it from working.

Open Task MGR, Process, look to the right and you might see ask, you can right click on the process, might be a CID, RT click and pick open file location, now you will see the file, where it's located, look from the main drive C: program files, you will see the rest of the address where it's located.

You can now in Task MGR turn it off and delete the .exe from the file and it will no longer work.

buy a new hard drive, plug it to your computer then download to that. or if you want the fast way simply start un installing programs/applications you dont use, empty your recycling bin, search for disk cleanup and run that and delete any old data you dont need on your hard drive then download.

Missing tool bar when I uploaded to Explorer 7. I cant click on tools to get it back because I dont have a tool bar to acces

Try to uninstall IE7. Once it's removed, restart your computer then it will revert back to the older version IE6. After that you can opt to install IE7 again or much better a newer version like 8 or 9.

To uninstall IE7, kindly follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs category
  4. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
  5. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 7. In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
  6. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 7.
  7. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
  8. After you restart your computer, open Internet Explorer. Click Help>About Internet Explorer and check if it's on version 6. If it is then proceed with upgrading to a higher version again.

    Hope this helps.

Uninstall programes we dont want which refuse to be uninstalled

Try to restore your computer to an older date. Go to SYSTEM TOOLS then SYSTEM RESTORE, select a previous date when you think you did not have those unwanted programs installed and proceed. The computer will start the process, it will reboot automatically then you should be fine next login.

Error 7 i cant open facebook

This error is most likely due to a problem with the Application folder on your computer during the installation process.

To resolve this issue, delete the Application folder, then try installing again. Follow these steps (for Windows):
  1. Go to the Start menu > Run.
  2. Enter one of the following commands in the text field, depending on your operating system.
    • Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome
    • Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
  3. Click OK.
  4. Delete the Application folder. If you're having difficulty deleting this folder, check for active Google Chrome processes on your computer and end them. Here are a few ways to locate and shut down these processes:
    • Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard and click Task Manager. Click the Processes tab and end every process that includes "google" or "chrome" in its name.
    • Download a third-party program called Process Explorer at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx. Use its Find menu to search for "Chrome/Application," then end all resulting processes.
Now try deleting the Application folder again.
  5. Once the Application folder is deleted, try installing Google Chrome again.

Well, I am new to fixya, so please don't forget to appreciate the solution.

Thanks.

My computer got a virus. I tried to reset everything. Seems to be working okay now, but says to insert the 'Dell Communications (Support Software)'. I've inserted all the install disks that came with it.

It may well STILL be some form of virus or spyware.

It may also be that you have too many applications running at once eg. lots of toolbars and instant message typ programs.

It can also happen on graphic intensive applications.

You should rule out nasty stuff first.

MBAM !

for a free one its pretty darned good !

From a CLEAN computer download and put on a flash drive.

Copy to your DESKTOP on the suspec computer.

Run it but dont change any options just use what it offers.

When its done let it clean anything it finds.

Its where I always start with an infected machine.

As for antivirus AVOID Norton or Mcafee but try the AVG FREE version MBAM should clean up without buying

Only continued use would require purchase As for too many applications that would be up to you to decide what you REALLY need and dont. Most toolbars are a waste of both time and space and can hog computers down. Maybe a good clean up is in order ?

It may just be a "leaking application"

These are badly coded programs that dont release memory when they should and just keep taking more to do the same job.

May I suggest you download
"hijackthis"

It is a program that can make a report on what you have running in such a way that you can post that information to certain sites and experts there will look at it.

They will then give you reccomendations as to how you can remove programs or fix some issues that may be upsetting your computer.

Dont post the log here but follow the nstructions and help the program offers to send it to one of the sites it will offer you.

If you understand startup lists you may even be able to spot som things yourself that you dont want to run and disable them from hijack this.

It keeps on saying i have firefox open but i dont

Make sure the downloads is also closed. Then make sure the program is turned off by opening the task manager, you can do that by pressing ctrl+alt+del together, then select task manager if it doesn't open automatically.

In task manager, open the processed tab, Look for firefox, select it and click end process or program. or just press the delete button and it closes it.

ones all firefoxes are closed try again with your program.

Installing downloads

Double click on the program in the toolbar or right click in it and select open or whatever you want to do with it. I personally use this app.downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org as my download status bar that helps let me know what's what. you can even pause in the process and come back to resume your download... good luck!05a6405.png
