the same thing happens to mine and it's a brand new cartridge, please help!!

  • Anonymous Jun 29, 2008

The ink tank can not be recognised, has not been refilled and still has plenty of ink in the tank. The message just came up at of the blue.

Have tried turning the machine on and off again, removing and replacing the suspect tank.

The printer doesnot recognize any of the inks. This happened suddenly. The inks are all almost full and the printer is just over one year old. Tried removing inks turned machine on and off.

I have the same problem with mine AGAIN. Has happened several times in the past. I'm tired of replacing almost new ink tanks (new ones from store, not refills). Can anyone help?

Started With a New Canon-made Black 8 cartridge. My first try was to reinsert the cartridge I had just removed, which the machine also could not identify. So, I then reinserted the new one, and the machine, when resetting, made this awful grinding noise, and now I get an error 5100 that I can't seem to get around. I have tried reloading the s/w to no avail.

I have had this problem repeatedly lately. To try the Stop/Reset solution already mentioned, I turned on my infrequently used Canon Pixma MP830. Most of the time at a fresh startup it gives an alarm message "the following ink tank cannot be recognized" OR "there are two of the following ink tanks installed" ??! for the single black 8 cartridge !, a Canon original. Of course, tonight it started just fine, but the methods I have used when it does not work because of these alarms are the following:

I open the top, wait for the cartridge carrier to center, unsnap the black 8 cartridge, then snap it back in and close the top. This sometimes works if repeated until the machine recognizes it. Sometimes I unsnap all the cartridges and resnap them. If this doesn't work, I remove the black 8 entirely and use a clean cloth to wipe the electrical contacts of the cartridge in the direction of their length and reinstall. It sometimes takes a repeated combination of these steps and sometimes the two different alarm messages will appear alternately. There does not appear to be any logic to it. Once the machine does recognize it, it works just fine.

However, if the machine is turned off, many times when it is turned back on later I have to go through all this frustrating rigamarole again. I hope it is a glitch with this particular cartridge (fairly new) and not the machine. Next time I get the alarm messages I will definitely first try the Stop/Reset button solution suggestion, but I thought I'd add my two cents solution, which so far has eventually caused the machine to recognize the cartridge.

Did you refill your ink tank? That will disable the function that tells the printer you have ink.

Just press the "Stop/Reset" button for about 10 seconds and the cartridge will be accepted. Do so for every cartridge sequentially. Good luck

Error code U150 on Pixma MP830

U150 error is ink tank not recognized, it happens alot on the y cartridge. i would advise you to get a version 3 cartridge. on the back of the cartridge if you hold it in the right light you will see a code like 2AHU 3FGH, this tells us its a version 2, i would maybe buy a version 3 or 5 with a updated chip, this will work fr you, if the fault is still there then the 4 contacts in the carriage unit that reads the cartridges is prob bent or broken!

hope this helps

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault.
I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.

Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.

Anyone who can help me would be appreciated

INK TANK

U150 is a 'faulty electronic chip on the tank' error. If you installed a new Canon OEM tank then probably the chip on the new tank is bad.. Take that tank back for a replacement.. If you installed a Clone(non-OEM) tank, then that one will only work if you retrieve a chip from a known good OEM tank and glue it on to it. Clone(non-OEM) tanks all come without chips.
