If you are running the unit in the A/C mode with the fan in the automatic position it could be the cause of the freezing of the coil. Try operating it with the fan in the on position and see if the problem goes away. When in the automatic operation the fan shuts off when the cooling unit shuts off and air circulation stops. Hence no defrosting of the cooling cycle in the off cycle. In the evenings when the outside temperature drops after sundown the pressures in the system drop in proportion dropping the temperature of the cooling coil sometimes causing ice formation on the cooling coil.

I have a Coleman Central Air Conditioner/Heat Pump. On the cooling mode the coils inside the unit in the basement continue to freeze up causing no air flow. I relpaced the filter thinking it might have...

The most common reason for freezing up is 'air flow,' and since you've already changed your filter - have you checked out the coil (the one that cold air comes from) to see if it's clean? If the filter you changed was really 'bad dirty' then it's a good bet the coil could be dirty also - thus restricting the air flow.

If you're satisfied that the coil is clean - about the only other thing it could be - is 'low on refrigerant,' which of course will take a Service Tech to find the leak, repair it and then re-charge the unit with refrigerant.

One other thing you might think about - are you running the blower motor on 'low speed?' If you are then put it on 'high' and see what happens.

Again, the most likely cause of your problem is air flow or 'low load,' - so I would really look hard for an air flow problem of some sort.

hope this has helped a little

My General Electric Central Air Unit lines are freezing? Should I turn off the unit?

Yes. Turn the thermostat off, put the fan switch in FAN or ON and allow it to run for a couple of hours with only the fan running. Check your air filter and your evaporator coil. Ensure they are clean. Clean if necessary. Ensure all of your return and supply air grilles are clean and clear of obstruction.
Restart your system and see if it begins cooling normally without freezeups. If a problem still exists, it is possible you have a refrigerant related issue that will require an EPA certified technician to correct.

Frigidaire central unit freezing up leaking

The coil freezing can be caused by a couple of things. 1) Not enough air flow over the coil or 2) A low refrigerant charge. First make sure that the indoor fan is running. Then check your air filters and make sure your evaporator coil is clean. After that you can get the refrigerant charge checked. The lower the refrigerant pressure is, the lower it's boiling point is and when it gets below 32F then the evaporator coil and usually the low pressure line freeze up. The leaking you were talking about is probably from the ice melting. Hope this helps.

I have a weatherking 13AJA60A01 Ac unit and the condensor fan is not moving, I can hear a sound assuming electricity goes through the system but the condensor fan not working. The unit is just 1 year old...

Weatherking has five year parts on there equipment. You may just have a breaker kicked or tripped float switch. Check for stopped up drain Shop vac **** out stoppage from the outside drain line for unit. Check breaker. The sound you here maybe the contactor. It energizes from the tsat inside. If the contactor energizes. You have a high voltage problem. Your warranty covers aprts not labor. So call a Rheem ,Ruud or Weatherking dealer. Any of these dealers can handle warranty parts. Rusty Feadback please.

Keeps freezing up

Two things will cause freezeup.

Lack of airflow.
Low refridgerant.

Lack of air flow could be due to :
dirty filter
Dirty coils
closed vents
Evaporator fan not operatriing properly. (also known as blower in HVAC units)

Price to replace cooling coil on WeatherKing 12AJA4801

If the coil was frozen over it tells me there is a different problem. If the coil is frozen over try this. turn the circulating fan to the on position and the sir conditioning to off . Let it run this way for 1-2 hours to melt the ice and re-establish the air circulation. Then turn the a/c back to the cool mode and see how it performs.

Lower temperatures during evening and night conditions can cause coils to freeze over. Running you A/C with the fan in the on position generally takes care of this problem when you are cooling.
