Using my PC for only as a digital audio workstation, I have serious problems with the Asus M2N motherboard and my Samsun SATA disk drive. After checking everything else (audio interface drivers, windows, onboard audio device disabling), it's the hard disk drive that is causing the problems (dropouts, crashes, general sloppyness). Is there something to do? Sami

Hi blckpythn,
If you're bios does not show the SATA drive, than it is possible the SATA controller is defective. I have come across this before.
Unplug the power cable from the PC.
Make sure the SATA data cable (Inside the connector) is clean. Take some alcohol, drip it on to a cotton swab. Clean the connector at both ends. Than clean the SATA connector on the board. Do the same for the SATA power connector. Please be sure everything is plugged in. (It takes very little for the SATA connectors to look connected but are not). Plug in you're power cable & boot to the bios by pressing the delete key. If the SATA drive is not seen by the bios, well you know all ready.
You can call Asus M-F 8:00AM to 5:00PM EST. Tech support number: 1-812-282-2787. Asus warrants their boards for three years. They will ask for the number's typed on a sticker located on the pink LPT port.
You can see this SN from inside you're case only. That SN will let the tech know if you're board is still in warranty. If it is, make sure you get a case number before you hang up with the tech.
You will need a case number before you can get a RMA number.

Good Luck!
If I can help you further, feel free to post.
Suggestions & comments welcomed.

Check your AHCI (or ACHI, can't remember) settings in your BIOS. Turn them off, use "standard pata mode" even though you're using a SATA drive, and try again.

ASUS P5QC does not detect any devices... I have a HD and a DVD hooked up. The jumpers are set to normal but they are connected to the MB with one cable. Does it need to be a master slave setup?

Yes, since you are using two IDE drives on One flat ribbon cable, you need to set the harddrive as a Master drive, and the optical, (DVD), drive as a Slave drive.

When two IDE drives are installed on one cable, BIOS needs a way to find the drive that has the O/S, (Operating System), then the optical drive.

Would recommend you buy a SATA optical drive, as soon as you can afford it. SATA DVD burners aren't that expensive.
Your motherboard is set up for SATA, and SATA is WAY faster than IDE. (IDE is also referred to as EIDE, ATA, and PATA)

Then of course a SATA harddrive, and a fresh genuine copy of Windows in the future.
SATA doesn't care where you plug in a drive, and doesn't care which drive connects to what SATA header. It will find that drive. You can connect any SATA drive, to ANY SATA header on the motherboard.

Having two IDE drives such as an IDE harddrive, and an IDE optical drive on the same cable, S-L-O-W-S your computer down! BIOS has to look to see which drive has the O/S first, then it will look for the optical drive.

Thought I would include two links that tell you, and show you how to set jumpers on the jumper pins, on an IDE harddrive, and IDE optical drive,

Sata drive not seen by mobo?

On some older models of mother boards, you cannot use the SATA drive as a main start-up drive. You can only use a SATA drive as a data drive if this is your case.

To verify this, re-install the IDE start-up drive. When the computer starts, verify that you can have access to the SATA drive as a second drive.

I have this issue with a few computers at our facility.

Same problem, but not solved

Matias,
Please remove the jumper on the SATA drive. Boot to the bios & see if the SATA drive is listed. If it is you're good. If this is the first SATA you have tried in the Asus board & my suggestion also failed to show the SATA drive you are left with two options.
One the SATA drive is defective or the SATA motherboard controller is bad. You can call Asus tech M-F 8:00AM to 5:00PM EDT. At 1-812-282-2787, there is little wait time when calling Asus tech. Asus does not charge you for calling them.

Second harddrive

Make sure its jumper is set as slave, if you have a 40wire ribbon cable, and cable select if you are using a 80 wire ribbon cable, if it is on the same ribbon cable.
If it is on the second ide cable, by itself keep it as master.
