Hi Louise,

The newest Nintendo update (1.4.1 or 1.4.2) blocks most flash cards on the DSi and DSi XL consoles so it's quite likely you've fallen victim to this. Check out DSCardWorld.com's blog post about it here:

http://www.dscardworld.com/blog/2010/09/24/dsi-1-4-1-firmware-fixes-for-acekard-2i-ezflash-vi-m3i-zero/

You can probably buy a card that works with the 1.4.1 update like the Acekard 2i, EZFlash Vi or M3i Zero. However, make sure you only buy the real one as fake/clone cards can't be updated when Nintendo releases a new firmware (it makes them cheaper to produce that way, which is why they don't do it). I recommend grabbing them from DSCardWorld.com itself or nds-gear.com if you're in Canada or Europe, since their international shipping rates are a bit cheaper.

Good luck!

Hi when i updated my dsi and then went on my r4i it came up with the following message: an error has occured. press and hold the power button to turn the system off. please refer to the nitendo DSI...

Hi the update has caused the dsi to refuse the r4 card nintendo have put some data in the update that stops you using the r4 cards so your not going to be able to use it, you may be able to do the following depending on what dsi you have got

which kind of r4i do you have?
If you have a R4i golden or R4i-SDHC(red), then you have to buy a new card for your dsi , because two of the cards are un-upgreadeable.
If you have a Hyper-r4i, R4i_CN or R4Ui , then you can download an updater progommen to update your r4i to fit the DSi V1.4 firmware.
Here is a list for Flash cart update:
http://www.4coolday.com/more_news&news_id=25.html

hopefully you can get it sorted you will either need a new r4 card that is able to work with the latest update or follow the instrucions on the links above if your dsi is one listed above

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Dsi (1.4E) It display the following message: An error has occured. Press and hold POWER button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Nintendo DSi Operation Manual for Details Restarting...

You have updated. then after tried to use an R4 card. There is developers at nintendo whose job is to "hit" R4 cards to prevent sharing. It happened to me. The card still is good not the ds. it will work in other ds's not yours

My daughter connected her DSi to the Nintendo DSi Shop and now her R4i-SDCH card no longer works. The DSi can still read the R4i-SDCH card on the menu but once you click it it reads.... ''An error has...

That doesn't work,
Basically the DSI update has blocked the R4 slot card, nothing you can do now!
No matter what firmware you place onto the card the blocking device is built into the DSI memory, I've tried formatting/changing dates/other slot cards. no good.
Afraid to say the DSI is no longer compatable with the slot cards except for the authentic cards.

The DSi has a firewall. The DSi blocks your card. Not a new SD, but a new R4, mate.
