Samsung DLP TV Component Problem-HL61A750A1F

Hi, We just purchased a 61 inch Samsung DLP tv and it is driving us crazy. The component box appears in the left hand corner of the tv at various times. Sometimes it appears during the program and other times when a commercial comes on. The technician that wired our house said the tv is switching between analog, HD or digital and this is why the box appears. We hooked the tv up to a different cable outlet and the component box did not appear once. This obviously has something to do with our home theater system because that is where the tv is plugged in when this problem happens. We had a Hitachi LCD tv with the same cable/connection and did not have a problem. (Our house and home theater system is a year old.) We have had the cable company out as well as, the tech that installed our home theater. We also exchanged the tv and still had the same problem. There has to be a simple explanation as to why this is happening but no one can give us one. We like the tv but don't like that box popping up every minute. I have been reading about different cables, HDMI and DVI but have no idea what any of that means. All of our components in the home theater are Marantz and are located in a central area. Like I said, the home theater was installed just a year ago. I'm not sure what other information you might need about our system but I can't believe we are the only ones experiencing this problem. Samsung has been no help and I can't find any information about this problem. I'm sure it is something easily fixable but we are not smart enough to figure it out. Any help you can provide would be wonderful.

    Thanks for your help.  I'm not sure why the Hitachi worked fine with the same set up but the Samsung does not. I do know that we have a CAT 5 cable with the home theater-do you think that has something to do with the problem? I'll take your advice and try a different home theater company.

    In regards to the component problem with our DLP TV-all that was needed to fix the problem was a driver that we downloaded from the Samsung website and installed into the tv. Very simple solution to a problem that no one at Samsung ever suggested.
    Thanks again for the help and hopefully this info may help someone with the same problem.

FYI only:

HDMI = High Definition Media Interface
DVI = Digital Video Interface

That kind of conflict (that's what it is) is tough for any one company to assist you on since it involves two manufacturers.
If you are very lucky, you might get help from a tech who has already stumbled across the same equipment complement.

I cannot tell the difference between my SD channels and my HD channels. I have samsung DLP tv, HD cable box and bose theater system. I am using an HDMI cable but there is not difference between that and...

In most cases you will not be able to see a great difference between HDMI and Component connections. As far as not seeing a difference between HD and SD signals from your cable box, go into the settings of it and see what resolution it is putting out. If you have a Motorola cable box, with it off and the TV on press the menu button and the setup screen will appear. That will tell you the output resolution as well as what the 4:3 override is set to. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks....

Screen Resolution Problems with Samsung 50" DLP

Hi there,

You may have already done this, but check to see if you can change the screen size in the set-top-box settings and set this to widescreen 16:9 to match the tv. You may also have 14:9 as an option too. Also, check your video output settings, this can be changed between RGB, Composite, PAL or NTSC.

Let me know if that does or doesn't solve the problem

HDMI Cable problem

Well, first you might want to try another hdmi connection behind your TV.If it appears to have the same message,you need to check your TV setup and be sure the HDMI video is active.
Secondly,go with the recommendation of the set top box.You will use component video cable to connect from your set top box component video output(Y PR PB) to your TV (Y PR PB) and see if that actually work.If so,just use the cable box for the time being and call your cable company for another cable box to replace this one!
