I continued reading what others did with the same problem and one said to move the printer head to the left and look to the right way under there. Sure enough there WAS a tiny piece of paper in it and once we removed it, the printer spit out a small photo paper and all was corrected. I appreciate all of the comments posted on the internet... Thanks!

I have a problem. When I turn on my printer, the first symbol from top constantly blinks and it doesn't print anything. How can I solve this issue?

Welcome to FixYa!

If the first symbol on the top is constantly blinking as shown in the picture below, It means that a paper or a foreign object has jammed your printer.

jas247_22.gif

Jam can occur in 3 areas. Please refer to the image below.
1. Internal Areas
2. Input Trays
3. The Output Bins
jas247_23.gif

To clear the jam, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord. Be careful not to tear the paper in case of a paper jam. If a small piece of paper remains in the printer, it could cause additional paper jam.

Let's clear out the Internal Areas first. Push the button to open the print-cartridge door, and then remove the print cartridge. To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover it with a piece of paper. Please refer to the image below.

jas247_24.gif
If jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_25.gif
If no paper was jammed inside the print-cartridge door, open the Output Bin or the back door
of the printer. To avoid damaging the printer, do not attempt to clear a jam in the top output bin by pulling the paper straight out.
jas247_26.gif
Again, if jammed paper is visible, grasp it with both hands and slowly pull it out of the printer.
If no paper or foreign object is visible, close the back door of the printer.

Next, let's take a look at the Input Tray. (We have already taken out the print cartridge.)
Lift the Tray 1 roller cover, grasp the jammed paper or foreign object, and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_28.gif
If no jammed paper is or foreign object is visible, open Tray 2 and see if a paper is visible. Again remove it slowly with both hands. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_29.gif
Close Tray 2.
If no jammed paper is visible in the second tray area, pull down the upper media guide (we have already taken out the print cartridge). With both hands, grasp the jammed paper and slowly pull it out of the printer. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_30.gif
Close the upper media guide and return back the print cartridge. Please refer to the image below.
jas247_27.gif

These steps should clear out any jams that you are experiencing.
Connect back the power cord again and turn on your printer. You should be able to print now.

Thanks for using FixYa. Keep me posted.

Printer signal "paper output slot, paper is jammed" This is not the case and the printer will not respond to any other actions at all

Paper jams can be tricky to solve. The paper is usually stuck inside the printer mechanism so even if there is no visible paper jam, you will still get the paper jam error. Try this:

1. Turn off your printer
2. Open all trays and remove any paper stuck there
3. Locate the button to open the printer, open it and remove any paper stuck there also.
4. Repeate the above step for all buttons that you can find to access the inside of the printer
5. Close all doors and put back all trays
6. Turn on your printer

How do I remove paper jamed in the printer?

Hi there,
Paper Jam :
Cause 1 : Paper jammer in the Paper Output slot or the Rear Tray.
Action : Remove the paper following the procedure below.
a) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Rear Tray or from the Paper Output Slot, whichever is easier.
* If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the machine, turn the machine off, open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and remove it.
Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine.
After removing all paper, close the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover), and turn it back on.
*If you cannot pull the paper paper out, turn the machine off, and turn it back on. The paper will be ejected automatically.

b) Reload the paper in the machine, and press the OK button on the machine.
If you turned off the machine in step a), all print jobs in queue are canceled.
Reprint if necessary.

If you canot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine or if the paper jam error continues after removing the paper, contact your Canon Service representative.

Cause b)Landscape credit-card-size paper jammed inside the machine.
Action : Do not load credit card-size paper in landscape orientation.
Slowly pull out the paper from the Tray and remove it.

If you canot remove the jammed paper or if the paper jam error continues after removing the paper, contact your Canon Service representative.

Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day.
