Same problem. Purchased Sony KP-46WT510 in Feb 04. Problem occurred on 5/29/08. Picture looks curved. Upper left corner and lower corners appear reddish/pink. Green lines /Ghosting appears on screen. Double lettering. Is this something that we can fix ourselves? We have done the Flash Focus and manual Convergence adjusting with no change in picture. Thanks,

I also have a KP-46WT510 (Sony) where the edges are curved especially very noticable when there are words on the screen. And the colors are out of whack with orange and green, etc.

Please let me know if this is something that I can fix. Also, if a professional is needed, how much should this repair cost?

    Thanks for your help!!

Our extended warranty ran out in April on our KP46WT510 Sony rear projection TV. This past week we turned on the TV and found that our picture was concaved, with color separation at the top left and bottom right of the picture. We had someone from QService come out and told us that our D Board was out and that we could have it sent to Sony for refurbish for $460 and the TV would be out for 3 weeks while this was being repaired. I wonder if Sony has thought of building a surplus of these, since it seems that this is happening to many of these TVs that are 3 to 4 years old. There has been some talk in these forums about replacing something called an "ic". Is this what Sony would do to refurbish the unit?

My ADVENT HDTV is concaving on the sides, more on the right side than the left. This area is black...and it is even blacker than the black screen. :( We LOVE this TV, can it be saved?

You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
picture looks curved (concave curve) on my sony KP - 701cb04.jpg

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Letters and numbers are 3d and curved picture

red, green, and blue lines curve across the top of tv is cause by defective convergence STK IC or you have open resistor at convergence section. if you have defective RGB Color vertical ramp probably you have defective STK IC..

If the entire screen is curved, and it is not taking the whole screen, then you have a vertical deflection problem.

If the colors are double and do not match, with lines of different colors around pictures , then you have a convergence problem, often caused by a faulty convergence board.

The curving effect can be a side effect of bad convergence, or you may have both problems at once.

Unless you are a TV repairer yourself, better calling technical support. Usually you can ring the number listed on the owner manual.
