Question about Canon PowerShot S400 / IXUS 400 Digital Camera

Lines and colors only?

Hi, when I turn the camera on, the display is fuzzy, like, I can't even make out any objects, it's just a bunch of lines and colors. When I switch to view mode, all the previous photos are fine. When I snap a photo and review it, it's just a photo of the lines and colors.

Thanks for the info! It sounds like my problem. One thing that wasn't clear; do you know if this is for models made for a particular year/period? I bought mine late 2004. I suppose the model number relates to the years they are manufactured so it doesn't matter and my camera should fall into the category ...

I have the same problem--lines and blurry colors, but previous photos show up fine in review mode. I have had this camera for about 4 years, and have no problems. I have also taken excellent care of it. It is always kept in a case. Also, the tiny tab that keeps the flash card door closed has broken and it won't stay closed (had to tape it). I have a friend with the same model that has the broken door problem also.

This notice applies to all models included in the notice, regardless of the manufacturing date (some are older than the S400).

My camera doesn't have color and I constantly see horizontal lines how can I fix this

To avoid to much guessing, I think you should try to reset the camera. How to do that is on page 24 and 25 of the manual. With this you exclude things that can go wrong, because of a wrong scene setting or white balance or whatever. After you did the reset in the shooting mode, everything is in automatic again. Then again try to shoot a picture.

It could be the display is giving up. after a few years you can't expect it would work as new. So even if you still see lines on the display, shoot some pictures and put them on the computer. There view the results.
If the pictures are good but the lines are still on the display, try to live with that. Repairs will cost more than a brand new camera of a better quality. If the lines are in the picture, the sensor is defect and I think you should start saving for a new camera. Although new point and shoots can be bought around a 100 dollar. But even some smart phones now can take pictures that should be as goos as the ones that came from your Olympus when it was brand new.
If you can't find the manual, the link here will download it for you:

SONY DSC-T1 CAMERA WHEN TURNED ON PREVIOS PICTURE SHOW UP FINE ON THE VIEW SCREEN BUT WHEN THE THE SELECT MODE SWITCH IS MOVED TO EITHER TAKE A NEW PICTURE OR TO MOVIE MODE THE VIEW SCREEN IS MOSTALLY...

Hi,

Based on the information you've provided it seems that the CCD Image Sensor of the Camera is affected. If the CCD Image Sensor is affected, the images captured may be discolored or with lines on it. Even if the CCD is affected, the previously captured images and icons of the Camera will display normally. You may try power resetting the Camera.

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.
Also try resetting the Camera back to factory default: The RESET button is located at the lower right side of the control button. To reset the camera just press the RESET button using a sharp-pointed object.
If the issue remains the same, then service may be required.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Vertical color lines on display screen

Hi!
If the lines appear while looking at the menu, then it's a broken LCD. If the lines appear only while taking pictures - faulty CCD. Contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, you can contact me at toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I will give you a good price.
I work in Sony service center.

Lines in images

Color lines in the LCD display is caused by certain type of light connections. If you get all the time when you turn on the camera then the LCD panel is bad, would need to be replaced. Black lines in printed printed pictures from your printer or the Kodak dock station printer? If that's the case, then the transfer rollers are dirty and would need to checked or replaced. Also drivers could do this also. Report the problem to Kodak Live Chat Online Tech Rep or called on the LAN line (phone).

Maybe it's because the camera is overheated, let it cool off. Or maybe it's because the monitor is broken. If so, then replace it.

Hi, I have the same problem with my sony DSC-S700. I think someone drop it, and it took pictures with horizontal line specially outdoor. I noticed that the lens shutter does'nt open and close. All I did was to tap on the lens several times and everythings back to normal. I so happy my camera is working again. Thanks to your idea. Brenton

Problems in A85

This is a CCD sensor fault and you should find out from Canon if they will repair free of charge which they do on many models which have faulty sensor installed in the factory.
