Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
I have a simular situation to a post you responded too. I have an HP Pavilion dv1000 that is about 4 years old. It was in standby mode when i opened it, a few lights flickered on then black.......nothing. I took it to a guy here in town he cant fix it, says send it to HP. He did say that its getting power which i already figured out from that lil lightening bolt and that the hard drive is ok. Well how does he know if the hard drive is ok, if it wont come on? Anyhow, do you perchance have any suggestions that I could try?
These are well known for the heatsink getting off kilter on the cpu due to a design flaw and shorting Caps and MOSFET's.. If its dead I'd say this is your issue..

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
one faulty lead will cause a computer to fail to detect a hard drive, continously reboot, shut down a computer
hope this helps
