More than likely it's the lcd screen and will have to be replaced. I
could be the video card, but most likely the lcd screen especially when
you can put pressure on the screen and cause changes. To isolate the
problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a
monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to
the laptop. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then the problem is
with your lcd screen and the video card is ok. If the Borrowed monitor
displays the same as your lcd screen then the problem is with your video
card inside the computer.
Plug in an external monitor and see if the
display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt
monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga
port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show
on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems
will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down
the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru
F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have
the icon of a display.
Once you narrow it down to the lcd screen as being the problem
you might try taking the lcd screen apart to reseat the lcd cable on the
back at the top of the lcd. Just unplug it and plug it back into the
connector. You can also try doing the same where the lcd cable plugs
into the motherboard. Just pull it out and put it back.
The thin ribbon that connects the board on the back of the lcd screen to the front glass of the lcd screen got damaged.
It wraps around the top of the screen and is very thin and can be easily damaged.
May be from old age and heat at the top of the screen or it could have gotten hit at the top.
The cheapest way to repair this is to replace the lcd screen with a
good used one because trying to find a shop to try to repair it would
cost more than a new monitor. It will change color with different colors and also if you push the screen at the top point. Don't play with pushing the screen too often as this may cause more to show up.
Sorry there isn't an easy fix to this.
This could be a failure in several areas along the path from the video card to the monitor.
Being that there is not an issue across the entire monitor the video card should be considered a last resort check.
Usually this is caused by a loose connection between the LCD driver and the LCD panel itself. Sometimes light pressure applied near the affected line will clear it up. If that does then it is a connection between the LCD panel and the connector to the LCD driver at the panel's edge.
Not much can be done unless you have it repaired by a professional or you can take it apart yourself and apply a pad of some type inside the monitor's edge to apply the needed pressure once assembled.
what i recommend you to test is to press behind your monitor and see that the line goes off or not.If it does..that mean you have a loose connection,it can be fix.Incase no then you have problem with your LCD.Normally if its LCD problem then you fix this problem, all you have to do is change the LCD.
