Salutations elderhostel,

Looking at your unit, it would appear that you would need to connect your VCR to the line listed Video In 1. Standard setup would allow for the red and white audio connections, and the yellow video connection (or S-video if your VCR provides this output). You then should be able to select Video 1 with your TV/Video button on your remote.

I hope this helps.

I cannot get sound from the TV when I use the DVD/VCR....I don't know how that happened - if it is a TV problem or a remote control problem. Can you help?

If the other inputs are working, it could be a single connection problem.

Sometime the connections at the back of the set can have solder breaks. If the problem comes and goes when you wiggle the cable then you might be able to re-solder the broken points.

This will require some dis-assembly of the TV set. If you are comfortable doing this, then look for a service manual for your model. Most of the time you can download one for under $20. This could help you with the assembly process.

Good luck.

I HAVE A MAGNAVOX TV MODEL 255102-OODD, A MOTOROLLA (VERIZON) SET TOP BOX MODEL QIP2400/1006 AND A JVC DVD MODEL DR-MV150BJ. I HAVE TRIED ALL THE HOOK-UPS SUGGESTED BY JVC AND STILL CONNOT GET A PICTURE. ...

ok, The issue will be in the sequence you have things connected. The connections sequence is going to be controlled by what connections are available. I assume the Set Top controller is connection to your Antennea connection on the TV. Your TV should be on channel 3 or 4. The next step depends on what type of connectors you are using for the JVC DVD. I have an Antennea output on mine so I connected them in series. If you don't have an Antennea output from teh DVD player you will need to connect the DVD using Audio/Video cables which means you will need to connect to the TV alternate Source connector and to watch DVD's you will need to change to that source. Much like you would switch between regular TV and VCR tape on a VCR player connected to the Antennea connector.

I want to hook a system

you will only be able to get digital surround( dolby digital ) from your dvd player( by the coax or optical digital connections ) , the rest will only be in virtual surround

from the dtv box plug the yellow video jack(RCA) into the vcr video input , then plug the audio jack or jacks into the audio input on the vcr. from the vcr hook the audio out to the audio in on the reciever( tv/vcr/sat... input ) , then also connect RF out from the VCR to RF in on the TV .
for the dvd player hook the "s-video out" to the "s-video in" on the tv , then the audio L and R on same s-video input , then send the audio out connection on tv to L and R input on reciever dvd L and R input , then you will need to connect the optical from the dvd player to the reciever or coax connections for the dolby digital on the reciever to work

Just bought TV and connected with red,white, yellow and s-video connections. screen says NO SIGNAL. I have a satellite dish and dvd/vcr. the dvd/vcr image shows up on tv screen.

* Possible Problem *
It's not clear how you have each of the components connected to the TV, but you do mention that you used the "yellow" and s-video connections. Those are both video connections. The yellow is a "composite video" connection. Many TVs won't accept signals from both the yellow and the s-video connections at the same time. Usually one will override the other.

* Possible Solution *
Make sure the satellite dish is on and (hopefully) on a valid channel. Try disconnecting the s-video and checking the screen. If it didn't work, remove the yellow connection and replace the s-video cable. Check again.

If the problem persists, please explain how the TV, dish and the dvd/vcr devices are connected to each other (audio cables not relevant).

Hookup dvd

What is the manufacturer and model number of the TV and DVD player? The secret is to go OUT from the DVD player and connect to an IN on the TV (note: on most TV's, the INs are not marked). Then you want to set the channel to the port you have connected to (usually by pressing the "video," "tv/video," "input" or "source" button on th TV itself - the verbiage varies by manufacturer and model number).

Toshiba Model 42HM66 DLP Projection TV

I strongly doubt it's the lamp assy since you can actually see the blue screen. If the lamp failed, you would not see anything on the screen. This blue screen indicates to me that either the tuner is no longer decoding the signal, in improper input has been selected (ie: input 1 is selected while actual signal is on composite 1), or something of that nature. If you are getting audio then the input is selected properly but the video decoder has failed.

If your cable signal is going through a VCR or DVD, disconnect it from there and go directly to the TV (ie: bypass the VCR/DVD). If your picture comes back, there's some kind of problem with your VCR/DVD player.

If you have multiple inputs, try connecting an input signal to another input (ie: video 1, or aux from a dvd player) and see if you get a picture there. If you do get a picture, the whatever input you're currently using has malfunctioned.
