Carrier Weathermaker gas 8000 will not ignite

This gas furnace runs OK some of the time, but will not ignite sometimes unless I switch the thermostat off and on again (2nd thermostat-both problems). May run for days and recycle properly, then quit again. Furnace turns on only some times. Thermostat is fine, error code 14 then 34 (Ignition Proving Failure) This is a two stage furnace. Blower comes on first, then gas turns on. Furnace attempts to light several times, but never makes it and then starts to flash code 34. Sensor has been cleaned. We've had 3 furnace repair guys to look at it and it's still not working! Frankly, they are stumped and are telling me to replace it.
It's only 5 years Old!!!

I had the same problem with mine. Check the thermocouple located in front of the far left burner. Make sure all of the wiring connections are secure and the flame is directly contacting the thermocouple. The processor allows for about 15 seconds between the time the gas valve opens and the thermocouple heats up enough to prove flame. If the flame is not proven within 15 seconds, the gas valve closes and the house fan starts and runs for about 1 minute. Then the house fan stops and it trys to restart.

Your hot surface igniter may be bad. It may be cracked which would prevent it from starting the burner flame.

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 furnace. it will not light.I tested the igniter on my upstairs furnace and it will glow and light that furnace. I can manualy light the furnace with a match. flame sensor...

If you're sure the igniter is good and the controller is sending voltage to gas valve to open, but not to the igniter then, yes, the controller is bad. The only way to know for sure is to remove the igniter's molded plug from the board and test voltage directly at the board. You should get about 100-120 vac to the igniter.

Furnace wont run

First of all when you flip the switch, it goes thru a startup sequence. THEN it turns on the Igniter (notice the red glow). Then the gas turns on.

Now at this point check the idiot light and it should be giving you a code of 34. That 34 (3 shorts 4 longs) says that there was a problem igniting the furnace. After it cycles thru at least 4 times and fails to ignite all the blowers, then is when you get a code 14 (1 short 3 longs)

NOTICE what's happening with ALL the burner Tubes each time it attempts to ignite. If only one or two are running....then this is your problem.
To fix all you do is take out the burner Tubes, look for debris, blow them out (blow from the front where all the jets are), and replace them in sequence from left to right (the tabs overlap).
