Check if you can use SATA else you'll have to look for IDE
Actually to insert a SATA drive is easier then replace a light-bulc.
Just remove cables, unscrew from "drawer" insrtn new drive, scress, replace cables.
If it's a system disk, the difficulty is resintall your system. After you've replaced Hard disk, formulate your question with more doubts

I cant download op cd

If the new hard disk is a SATA hard disl then the problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

Need sata achi drivers so i can istall a sata hdd

You sure? Most of the time if your motherboard has sata connections then the bios should recognize the hard drive and once the computer comes up. It should come up with new hardware found and then install the drivers on it's own, however if it doesn't or won't go the the hard drive manufactures website and you should be able to find the drivers you need there. Probably under the drivers and help section of the website. Hope this helps

I JUST INSTALLED A SEAGATE 500G INTERNAL DRIVE DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD A DRIVER FOR THIS

I've never heard of downloading a driver for a internal hard drive. What I do know is that you have to make sure that the jumper is on the correct connections. example if your main harddrive is a master then you should put the jumper on the two pins that read slave. If you have a sata harddrive then you would just have to connect the data cable and the power cable without doing any jumper settings. well hope this helps.

Connecting a 2nd internal hard drive

No, the Y cable will not compromise the function of your master drive. As far as the fan goes, a 2nd hard drive is not going to increase the internal temperature at all; the fans that came with your system should be sufficient. Thanks and please take a moment to give this answer a rating of fixya. Thanks :c)

Hi.

I will explain you the issue.

The notebook is preinstalled with a SATA hard drive which needs seperate drivers to be installed inorder to get the hard drive detected. The drivers for the SATA can be installed only by using a floppy drive. As the notebook does not have a floppy drive installed, we can either try disabling the SATA native support in BIOS or install the drivers with the help of a USB floppy drive.

If the USB floppy drive is not available, you have the alternative steps to install the SATA driver.
Please refer the following link to install SATA driver without the USB floppy drive:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/4864999/sata

or

http://cid-3a2fd42defd10b67.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/sata.pdf

If you have the Floppy drive you can install the SATA driver.

Just follow the below procedure:
Download the SATA driver:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp37005.exe

1. Download the driver to a directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. A diskette containing the driver is created, and the driver files are also made available at c:\swsetup\sp37005. If you choose to cancel diskette creation, you will need to copy the driver files to the chosen media.

Installation Instructions:

NOTE: A USB diskette (floppy) drive is required to use this driver. If an external USB diskette drive is used, ensure that it is plugged into the system before starting Step 1.

1. Insert the operating system CD, and Power On the notebook to boot
from the CD.

2. At the very beginning of the operating system installation, the following prompt is displayed at the bottom of the screen:

"Press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or RAID driver...."

When the prompt is displayed, press F6.

3. Later in the operating system installation, you are notified that a mass storage device could not be detected. When this notification occurs, press S (S=Specify Additional Device).

4. When prompted, insert the diskette that was created from the SoftPaq file, and then press Enter.

5. Select "Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)" and press Enter.

NOTE: At this point, the following prompt MAY be displayed, depending on the version of your operating system CD. If the prompt is displayed, press Enter to use the default Windows driver and continue, if it is not displayed, continue with Step 6. The prompt reads as follows:

Windows already has a driver that you can use for
"Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)".

Unless the device manufacturer prefers that you use the driver on the floppy disk, you should use the driver in Windows.

S=use the driver on floppy ENTER=use the default Windows driver

6. Continue with the operating system installation, as prompted.

NOTE: If a problem is encountered when using the external USB floppy drive, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 916196: "A connected USB floppy disk drive does not work when you press F6 to install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process."

Hard drive installation

You should be able to install that drive. The biggest variable is if it is a SATA or PATA drive. This model was built for SATA drives, but I think you may be able to get a PATA drive to work with the right adapters.

For the step by stem directions see the link below. It will take you right to the Dell support page. Refer to the "Adding a Second Hard Drive" section.
