Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee on/off switch

How to I replace the on and off switch? I removed all the screws on the bottom of the machine. The bottom is removed, but i don't know how to remove the upper portion to get to the switch. I don't see any other screws.

Unit does not start brewing, when switch is turned. Worked fine for a year, but suddenly stopped. What can I do to fix this problem? Also, are there Re-furbished available? Could I have a link?

Same issue - I am presuming it is under the stainless front fascia - Any toggle will work here - it doesn't have to be from Cuisinart

My coffeemaker worked fine for about a year or so, and now it turns off on its own--when it's brewing or shortly after. I have to keep flipping the toggle switch to turn it back on. Any solutions, other than buying a new coffeemaker?

What type of screwdriver head did you use to get the screws off of the bottom?

Worked fine for a few months. Now when the start switch is rotated the red light illuminates, but it doesn't brew...

  • Anonymous Aug 07, 2008

It worked fine for over a year, but now when I flip the switch nothing happens. The light doesn't turn on and it doesn't brew. Then I come back a few minutes later, sometimes hours later after several tries, and it works! This happens maybe once a week, but it's becoming more frequent.

do you need special sdcrew drivere to get bottom plate off

  • mkendall Aug 20, 2008

We've had our machine for almost three years. Our coffeemaker has the same problem. First then on switch would cut off during brewing, then it would only come on intermittently. We worked around that by using the programming mode but now it will brew coffee then shuts off the warmer. I just got off the phone with Cuisinart and they are going to send a new machine. I have to pay $10 shipping. I love the coffee machine as it brews great coffee and keeps it very hot. I called them at 1-800-726-0190 and they were very helpful.

To remove the faceplate:

You will need a tiny standardscrewdriver (I used one from an eyeglass repair kit) and a smallishphilips screwdriver. Begin by removing the carafe, the basket (andpermanent filter, if you have one), the water filter, and the inserton the underside of the flip-up lid. With the lid open, you willnotice two round screw covers towards the front of the coffeemaker toeither side of the filter basket. Remove these with the smallstandard screwdriver. This is impossible to do without damaging themsomewhat. Remove the two philips screws underneath .

There are nine clips that need to bereleased to remove the plastic top of your coffee maker. First, pressin on and release the two located on the back just below the lidhinge. With the small standard screwdriver, gently release the sixclips along the top edge of the casing. These are located two inback, near the corners and two along each side. You will have to getup underneath the plastic bezel, be gentle so that you do not bendthe stainless steel housing (if you do, gently bend it back intoplace before you put everything back together). Lay the coffeemakeron its back. The final clip is located in the carafe “nook” tothe back of the drip outlet. The upper plastic portion should nowlift straight up out of the coffeemaker.

With the coffeemaker upright, removethe four philips screws holding the faceplate in place. Remove thefaceplate by pulling it straight out towards you.

Instructions are great thus far. I have the faceplate off and have identified the toggle switch. Where would I get a replacement toggle switch. I don't see any number on the part. I checked the Cuisinart website and it only had basic stuff like replacement carafes, filter baskets, etc. Any ideas on where to find the part?

I have the same problem with trying to turn on the machine and no lights or action out of the machine. I just got off the phone with customer service and they indicate that I need to reset the machine. To do this ALL I have to do is unplug the machine and leave it unplugged for 1 hour, then all will be OK. They tried to tell me that although I bought the machine less than 3 yrs ago that the warranty ran out in August. When I argued they indicate that I must box and ship the machine back with proof of purchase and a $10 check. Sounds like they want to make things as difficult as possible.

I gave up on mine. Noticed the new model got rid of the flimsy toggle switch. I had to beat mine with a hammer every morning to make coffee. Not sure if mine made it three years or not. Just bought a mighty fine old faithful Mr Coffee and through the Cusinart in the trash.

The "3-Year Limited Warranty" on this model doesn't cover any kind of repairs, they just replace the unit if you send the old one back (at your expense) plus $10.

Same problem.
3 year warranty? I did not know that but will be calling them shortly. Good luck finding a receipt, but they should have date of manufacture on them.

The coffee maker has a three-year warranty. Contact Cuisinart for repair rather than trying to fix it yourself.

I have the same problem. I think the problem may be with the auto shut off timer malfunctioning. Toggle switches are very basic and typically work or don't work. If the problem is with the switch I would be concerned about an electrical short and possible fire. I recommend unplugging the unit when your not using it, or throwing it out before it burns your home down. I will look into a recall and will repost if I find anything.

How to repair a DCC-1200 Cuisinart Coffee Maker

Problem #1 - DCC-1200 makes steam - not coffee. Reason: the check valve is plugged - water will not flow.

Solution #1 - Remove the check valve located inside one of the 2 silicon tubing hoses inside the coffee maker...and clean the valve. You must remove the bottom of the coffee maker (problem #3). Note: the check valve is not plugged due to hard water minerals. It plugs up from coffee grounds and coffee residue. Thus...use the charcoal filter, and clean with 50% white vinegar on a regular basis.

Problem #2 - Removing the check valve located inside the tubing. You must cut it out and thereby destroy the tubing. Replacement is required.

Solution #2 - purchase one foot of 3/8" SILICON tubing over the Internet from Rebel Brewer at www.rebelbrewer.com. Silicon is required to handle the high temperature.

Problem #3 - removing the bottom plate. It is secured with four "custom" torex screws that cannot be removed with a normal torex tool. (not designed to be easily removed).

Solution #3 - I used a 1/4" drill bit and drilled off the heads of the screws. The bottom is easily removed. I was able to snap it back into place. You can use some silicon caulk at the 4 corners for a more secure fitting.

Good Luck - not too difficult

Camanokid

Where is thermal fuse in cuisinart dcc-1200 it needs replacement

The Cuisinart DCC-1200 doesn't appear to use a thermal fuse but instead seems to use a NTC Thermistor. Like thermal fuses this is clipped onto the bottom heating element and has two yellow fine lines leading to the control board. It should measure ~220k Ohms at room temp and drop its resistance to <20K ohms as water boils. This Thermistor looks and behaves a lot like a Vishay NTCLG100E22245B [220KOhmn] which is available through DigiKey [BC2467 part number; $0.52]

See post on Cuisinart customer service. The tube can be purchased at Lowes. Clear vinyl 1/2" O.D., 3/8" I.D. The compression clamp will have to be replaced as well.
I used a 1/2" hose clamp available at any auto parts store.

How to use Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker to make a pot of coffee

Just bought a DCC-1200 from Goodwill for 4.95. Looks brand new. Would heat up and sputter but nothing comming through to the pot. Removed botton with T-10 torx driver. Remove hose with check valve in it. TYou can squeeze the hose about an inch down and feel it to determine which hose its in. Pushed the valve out with a screw driver over a towl so if the little ball fell out I wouldnt loose it. There was a small wad of yelllow paper clogging the valve. Removed it. Reassembled and it works great.
