Question about Cuisinart DCC-1200 Coffee Maker
How to I replace the on and off switch? I removed all the screws on the bottom of the machine. The bottom is removed, but i don't know how to remove the upper portion to get to the switch. I don't see any other screws.
To remove the faceplate:
You will need a tiny standardscrewdriver (I used one from an eyeglass repair kit) and a smallishphilips screwdriver. Begin by removing the carafe, the basket (andpermanent filter, if you have one), the water filter, and the inserton the underside of the flip-up lid. With the lid open, you willnotice two round screw covers towards the front of the coffeemaker toeither side of the filter basket. Remove these with the smallstandard screwdriver. This is impossible to do without damaging themsomewhat. Remove the two philips screws underneath .
There are nine clips that need to bereleased to remove the plastic top of your coffee maker. First, pressin on and release the two located on the back just below the lidhinge. With the small standard screwdriver, gently release the sixclips along the top edge of the casing. These are located two inback, near the corners and two along each side. You will have to getup underneath the plastic bezel, be gentle so that you do not bendthe stainless steel housing (if you do, gently bend it back intoplace before you put everything back together). Lay the coffeemakeron its back. The final clip is located in the carafe “nook” tothe back of the drip outlet. The upper plastic portion should nowlift straight up out of the coffeemaker.
With the coffeemaker upright, removethe four philips screws holding the faceplate in place. Remove thefaceplate by pulling it straight out towards you.

I have the same problem with trying to turn on the machine and no lights or action out of the machine. I just got off the phone with customer service and they indicate that I need to reset the machine. To do this ALL I have to do is unplug the machine and leave it unplugged for 1 hour, then all will be OK. They tried to tell me that although I bought the machine less than 3 yrs ago that the warranty ran out in August. When I argued they indicate that I must box and ship the machine back with proof of purchase and a $10 check. Sounds like they want to make things as difficult as possible.

I gave up on mine. Noticed the new model got rid of the flimsy toggle switch. I had to beat mine with a hammer every morning to make coffee. Not sure if mine made it three years or not. Just bought a mighty fine old faithful Mr Coffee and through the Cusinart in the trash.

The "3-Year Limited Warranty" on this model doesn't cover any kind of repairs, they just replace the unit if you send the old one back (at your expense) plus $10.

3 year warranty? I did not know that but will be calling them shortly. Good luck finding a receipt, but they should have date of manufacture on them.
"It worked fine for over a year, but now when I flip the switch nothing happens. The light doesn't turn on and it doesn't brew. Then I come back a few minutes later, sometimes hours later after several tries, and it works! This happens maybe once a week, but it's becoming more frequent."

The coffee maker has a three-year warranty. Contact Cuisinart for repair rather than trying to fix it yourself.

I have the same problem. I think the problem may be with the auto shut off timer malfunctioning. Toggle switches are very basic and typically work or don't work. If the problem is with the switch I would be concerned about an electrical short and possible fire. I recommend unplugging the unit when your not using it, or throwing it out before it burns your home down. I will look into a recall and will repost if I find anything.
