As long as the unit has a phone line connection, yes. You will need to look in the manual on how to configure the fax portion of your printer, however they can do just faxing if that is what you want it to do.

Plug the fax data line into your phone outlet. Plug your phone into the fax machine phone outlet. Follow the setup instructions to tell the fax when to answer. You can use the same phone line for both faxing and normal calls.

Do you have the phone line pluged into the LINE plug not the Telephone Plug?

Is the fax line analog line can not be digital if internet is over the phone line need DSL filter. Use only a 2 line phone line not a four wire line. If you have a two fax input then you can fax and receive faxes at the same time.

I am trying to send a fax from my PC using a Canon MX860. I am using cable internet. Do I need to have my printer/fax plugged in directly to my phone line or just into my computer?

Typically a fax machine will use the phone line to communicate with other fax machines. There is a port on the back that you can plug a phone line into. I think it is the one below the port that looks like a phone handset.

Where to plug in the phone line for the fax

You don't plug a phone line into this printer. It's not a fax machine itself. According to the user's guide (which you can download here), "To send a fax using this printer, you need to have the printer attached to a computer that is equipped with a modem and has Microsoft Fax installed."

What this means is that the printer is just serving as the input (scanner) and output (printer) parts of a stand-alone scanner, but you need your computer to connect to the phone line. Without the computer modem and Microsoft Fax software, your printer is, well, just a printer, with scanning capability.

Sorry! Thanks for using Fixya.

Trying to fax with pixma mx7600. Plugged phone

You probably want to plug the phone line (the line from the wall) into the port marked "L" for line on the back of the Fax machine. The jack with the picture of the telephone handset is for your optional voice phone to share the same line with the fax machine.

Does not recognize phone connection --can not send fax or receive fax--no connection. phone line is direct--works good

Hi. Here are some things you need to check: 1. Check the physical connection. Make sure the phone cable you're using is still in good condition. No obvious defects. 2. There are two phone ports behind the printer- Ext and Line. The phone jack from the wall should be plugged in to the Line port of the printer and not in the Ext. port. 3. Make sure to enter your Fax name and the correct Fax number in the printer. These are the basics on how to setup the printer for faxing. Hope these helps.

Setting up fax feature

get a separate telephone cable and attach it to your fax, switch line over from phone to fax manually at the phone line input on the wall, it's the ONLY way I can manage that same problem. If you forget to "switch" your lines over, unplug the fax from the wall & answer your other house phone that's plugged into the wall. Works every time. It takes a little effort, but why pay for more phone lines when all you have to do is plug/unplug an extra phone line?
