Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

I have a Polaroid 40gsr3000 40 in lcd tv. sound works no picture. think maybe inverter board. One board in middle of back .one long strip board that runs along bottom of tv. Is this inverter board?

What you have is an led tv . And the inverter for the back light led is there in the main board (mother board.) of the tv. Its no a separate board.
The the Log board you see is the TCON board which drives the led panel.
If you wish replace the inverter the you have to bay new mother board for you tv. In the model you have Almost every thing is integrated to the mother board like power supply ,back light inverter board the cpu section.

Power light is on but no picture or sound and screen flashes

The most common cause of this issue is a failure of the filter capacitors on the power supply board. The board is repairable by replacing the bad capacitors. This will require a little soldering but should only take about 20 minutes total time. Here is a link to a repair kit with the correct capacitors \for that model.

Power light flashes but TV does not come on: no picture no sound. 34" HD Magnavox 32MF231D/37

Check if it the picture may be just faint. If it is it may be a bad ballast or weak back light. If there is none at all, it may be a problem with the power supply. This is the first circuit after the power chord. There may be loose connections, leaking or swollen capacitors or burnt resistors or the IC or the entire circuit may be bad. This is a common issue with these type of devices. While at it check the rest of the circuit for the same items. There are cases where the problem is with the main board.

Had the same issue, I replaced two 1200uf caps on the power supply board and now it works fine again. Remember to replace the caps with caps rated for at least 35wvdc.
