WEP encryption uses Hexadecimal characters (0-9 and letters A-F). But unfortunately with WPA encrytion you need to do the try and error thing.

If you have Wireless MAC Filter Enabled on the Router then Either ADD the Wireless MAC Address of the Wii on the router or disable the Wireless MAC Filter on the router, also check the level of the Wireless Security supported by the Wii and accordingly set it up on the Router.

Unable to connect PS3 to linksys wrtg54gs

Have you tried hooking up with a cable directly to the router? have you tried hooking up with a cable directly to the modem? do you get any response from it either way. I use one of these with 2 ps3s and 2 laptops going and they work great. But I have WPA set up not WEP. If you go into the router settings is it setup to run more than 1 wireless item at a time? Did you manually set the ip address or is it set to automatic?

Linksys WRT54G not seeing internet connection

spacer335,

Who is your Internet service provider, and do you have cable or DSL? You said you have your PC, Xbox and DVR all hard-wired and working fine; are they currently able to get online while connected directly to the Linksys WRT54G? What devices are you trying to connect wirelessly to your Linksys WRT54G?

If you are currently getting Internet access let's check the wireless settings in your router.

Here are a few things you can do to verify your wireless settings in the Linksys WRT54G:

1. From your hard-wired PC, log into your Linksys WRT54G via the web-based interface. (Open Internet explorer and type 192.168.1.1) Note: this is the default IP address that comes on most Linksys routers.

If that doesn't work, verify your computers current IP address information by going to Start (or in Vista it's simply a windows icon), and selecting Run. Type CMD and hit Ok. Now type ipconfig and hit enter.

The default gateway information is the address of your router and should read something like 192.168.1.x.

Enter that address in Internet Explorer's address bar and hit Go.

2. If you connected successfully you should receive a username and password prompt, again the default username and password that comes with most Linksys devices is admin/admin, however it could be different if you've specified an alternate username/password. If you cannot remember the username/password, your only recourse is to perform a hard-reset of the device by using a small pin and holding the reset button on the back of the router.

3. Once you're in the router's web-based configuration there will be a section for "Wireless Settings" or "Wireless Configuration", or some derrevation. Depending on the version of firmware you have installed on the unit, it may be under Basic Setup or Advanced Setup.

You'll know you've located it when you have see options for SSID, Channel, Wireless Security/Encryption, WEP, WPA, etc.

This section will tell you the name of the signal your router broadcasts (also known as SSID). You can change this to whatever you like, in fact is reccommended you change to something unique so that you can easily identify your network when trying to connect with a laptop. You can also enable wireless security such as WEP or WPA, however for the purposes of troubleshooting let's leave encryption off for now. Once you've made the neccessary changes, select Save or Apply at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

4. Now, again since I don't know what you're attempting to connect wireless I will assume its a laptop with an intergrated wireless adpater, or possibly a USB or PCMCIA wireless adapter. Either way you should see your network (with the new name you've configured) in the list of avialable networks, do you see any networks listed? If the laptop has built-in wireless, is the WLAN switch enabled on the laptop? (Usually a small switch on the front or the side of the laptop indicating WLAN, or sometimes a function/fn key combination)

Hope this helps somewhat, give me some more information about what you're trying to connect wirelessly with and I'll see if I can help you out.

Cannot hook up new wrt54g2 router and second computer

Kraig, you need to know what the name of your router is, the SSID, in order to connect to it. Once the router is recognized you will have to enter the encryption key. Full instructions can be found here.
Good luck connecting!

Conecting my Brother Wireless Printer

Hello....I'll try and help you make a start.

1. To find the settings you need to set up your printer, you will need to login to your router. Open a web browser, as if to view a web page, but instead type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar at the top.

2. If successful, you are prompted for a username and password. If you have not changed these, leave username blank , and enter password: admin. Otherwise, please enter the password you have set.

3. If you log in successfully, you should see the Linksys router configuration screen.

Select the Wireless tab, and go to ‘Basic Wireless Settings’ > Wireless network. You should see here your SSID or Wireless Network Name, as required for your printer setup.

4. Go to ‘Wireless Security’. If the ‘Security Mode’ is set to ‘Disabled’, your system is Open or unsecured: your encryption type will be ‘None’.

If, however, it is set to WEP, your WEP key should be shown below. If it is set to WPA-Personal or similar, your WPA Shared Key should be shown below. This is the key described in your posting as the WPA2-PSK or Pre-Shared Key: it is also known as the network key, security key, or passphrase.

I think this covers all the settings mentioned in your posting. For further information, SecureEasySetup, AOSS and WPS/Wi-fi Protected Setup are shortcut methods to enable security on your router. Recent versions of your router model support SecureEasySetup.

You can download a copy of the manual for your router from the Linksys site: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G/download
(You will need to check your router label for the correct version number.)

I hope this helps. This advice is based on the Linksys WRT54G user manual. However, please come back to Fixya if this is not clear or does not work for you.

I have 3 computers, 2 laptop's and one desktop. I'm trying to secure my wireless router, which is connected to a voip router and speedtouck internet

Go into the admin of your router. By default it should be http://192.168.0.1

user id: admin
password: linksys

select wireless.

I use 64 bit wep encryption because I have cell phones and pdas that can use basic wep encryption. If you have other appliances in your house running wireless 128 bit encryption may not work on those devices.

You can create a phrase. It will generate a 4 keys for you based on the passphase given. It defaults to the first one. You might want to print the screen out. Save it to your router.

Rescan the network on your routers. You will be prompted to insert the key. Use the key 1 settings and save it.
