I get a screen that asks for safe boot, normal, etc & I have selected each & it comes back to this screen. It all began when the NEC dvd recorder/player showed a code 12 & I went to the Microsoft site & they mentioned a debug procedure through the boot.ini. This created this last issue. So now I can't boot up & dont know what to do about the dvd

it could be win32 virus which has wiped one of your files that starts pc you might have to do a full windows xp reinstall check youtube to find out how to install windows xp.....if you downloaded something recently you can do a system restore through safe mode.... restart the pc when the first screen comes up press F8 a few times it will then ask you to start in safe mode and a few other options try selecting the option (boot from last known good configuration)
if that doesnt work then resart the pc again then press F8 again few times then safe mode options will come up again then select safe mode hit enter key then let the files load it will look different when it starts
press start then all programmes then select accessories then select system tools then select system restore
dont use the default time to restore select different restore time pick a date on the next screen click on it then click next the pc will restore the pc to when it was working properly of that date you select..it will restart itself if that doesnt work you might have to a full system recovery install windows i mean again you will find videos on youtube showing you how to install your version of windows warning it will delete all files on your pc and then reinstall windows it will be like a new pc....bonnell
1. You may have to go into "safe mode" 1st and then start you pc in normal mode. 2. if you have a virus you may not be able to recover with the Norton anti virus. 3. There is a free software that you can try called "Ccleaner" this may restore you to the boot screen. A google search will find the site. 4. You may have to "format" the drive and reinstall your Operating System. I hope this helps.
Get windows 7, or downgrade to xp. lol kidding. During the start up, i beleve its either f11 or f12 press them it should bring you to a boot screen. follow option. or you can use the compaqs built in recovery system. reinstall your system. vista has a option to save its old files for transfer.
do you have a wired or wireless mouse? Have you tried attaching a different mouse to your computer? What is the brand name of your mouse?
Try booting your computer in Safe Mode. To do this, after turning on the computer, press F8 button several times. You will see a screen that will ask you to boot normally, boot in Safe Mode or boot in Safe Mode with Network Connections. Select Safe Mode.
See if your mouse works then.
Check back with me for further help, if needed. There are additional things you could try.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment
that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed
etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly
until you are presented with a Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back
into normal mode.
On the black screen just navigate throug up and down arrow keys.
Goto Safe Mode and press enter.
It will boot your system in safe mode.
If the boot is success full:
try to remember any software or hardware you recently installed/change. Then remove/uninstall that software/hardware. Also remove some device driver like Video/Audio driver and make re-start. and try to normal boot. If success then install your audio/video.
If no success then I think its time to re-install your windows. Please post your feed-back.
go to Safe Mode and uninstall the older version of the driver of the VGA Card... reboot in normal mode, it has to login to the windows with no driver for VGA Adapater ... try to find the newest driver on internet and install it .. it should solve the problem
