Question about Zebra TLP 2844-Z Thermal Label Printer

1 Answer

How come a thermal printer needs a "ribbon"?

After owning a TPL2844 printer, for a month I still have no joy determining the "ribbon" needed to print on the 4x6 labels.  No even the "customer service" folk at Zebra seem to know.  Might this be "typical" service for this company?  The unit is shipped from Zebra with virtually no information or supplies.  Enquires made to "customer service" made by both the purchaser and the seller have not been able to come up with any answers.
At this moment the printer works with ribbon #800130-103 that is 3.31 inches wide where we URGENTLY need a ribbon that is 4" wide.
Does not seem to be rocket science but we just cannot get any answers from anyone.
Anyone know the answer?

When i try print the label..no output at the label..how to test whether the ink is function or not

I'm including this link to the users manual:

http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/resource_library/manuals.results.html

But here is the basic troubleshooting info for that issue

No print on the label. The media may not be direct thermal media when printing without ribbon (i.e. thermal
transfer). See the test procedure

Determining Thermal Media Types on page 29.
• For thermal transfer printers, the media may not be outside wound or approved for use in
the G-Series printer. See the following ribbon test procedures: Ribbon Test with Adhesive
on page 32

and Ribbon Scratch Test on page 33.
• Is the media loaded correctly? Follow the instructions for

Loading Roll Media on page 11
in the Getting Started section. For printing using transfer ribbon, see

Loading Transfer Ribbon
on page 14.

Changed rolls of labels on Zebra GX 420T and now nothing prints

Were the new labels thermal paper? Thermal printers need specially made paper to work right.

Ribbon Error

According to the user's manual this message indicates a problem with the ribbon sensor. As a test, set the unit for thermal direct printing and attempt to print a barcode. You will not see the code if yoiu are expecting thermal transfer, but the paper/label should feed like it is printing. That will indicate that the printer is functioning. At this point, the sensor needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I cant seem to get rid of the "Ribbon In" error on my zebra S4M

1st change the print method to direct thermal on the LCD panel,  then check the driver on your computer, make sure you are printing with direct thermal

u can check the driver at printer & faxes , right click the printer and select printing preference .

Zebra 105sl printer shows Error Code: ribbon out Printer Idle: 60-16-3z after we moved it from a different location. However, we've been printing fine w/o ribbon for many years.

so u used the direct thermal label that doesn't need a ribbon ? check the driver at Printer & Faxes on the PC, change the print method on the printing preference from thermal transfer to direct thermal

110xi111plus error code: warning ribbon in? what does that mean?

that ribbon occures when you are set for thermal direct printing in the driver or printer and you should be set for thermal transfer in the driver in printing defaults off of the advanced tab and the printer needs to be set for thermal transfer in print method in the setup menu. thermal transfer is printing with black ink ribbon and paper and thermal direct is just chemicaly treated paper.

How to reset factory default S4M. I try Pause and feed at starting the printer but it does'nt works. I have a display message: ALERT RIBON OUT.

This may be related to the printing mode you have configured. If you're printing on a thermal paper (direct) and the printer is configured for thermal transfer the printer will notify you that you are out of ribbon.
If you are printing on a regular paper and using a ribbon (thermal transfer) and the printer is configured for direct printing, the printer will notify you that you have a ribbon when you don't need one.

I hope this helps.

Fábio

No print with ribbon

Did you put a ribbon in your printer? The zebra does both direct thermal and thermal transfer, but you need a ribbon to get it to print AND have to change the settings to let the printer know that it needs to use the ribbon instead of direct thermal.
