That green icon is for the sata hardrive that you connected
since it is plugged in via usb cable your computer detects it as a usb device which is normal and theres no need to be alarmed.

My Computer not showing my toshiba canvio hard drive

Have you tried shutting down the computer ... unplugging the hard drive ... re-starting the computer .... and plugging in the hard drive (after the system is all ready for use) ?
It's likely the hard drive was "ejected" ... (after defrag ? or when the system went into standby/hibernation) .... and hence you see the icon in the task bar ... indicating that you can safely unplug the hard drive from the computer.

My hard drive was dead and wasn't recognized by the computer, it didn't even start, just a few clicking noises, which according to some of the experiences is the same as a DEAD Hardisk. Anyways, as I read that sometimes this happens as a result of a hit, well, I wacked my HD as a last hope for it to recover its "memory" (as in the movies) and believe me or not, it worked! I don't know if this might help yours, but it saved mine!
The way I did it was like this: I started the pc and when the HD started to run and I heard a couple of clicks, I hit it against the table while in vertical position (assuming that the arm of the HD might slightly move better that way) one time, and then when the spinning and the first click was heard agin I hit again. After that I heard the typical searching sound of a HD, and you can imagine I started to pray that what I heard wasn't my anxiety sound (if it has any). Now I am a firm believer in the old trick of whacking the old TV to get the vital signal back!
Good luck to you too!

Sometimes when a flashmemory stick or USB external hard drive fails because it was not removed fromthe USB port properly. If the device is removed byjust pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, youmust click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select thedevice you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so When the flash memoryUSB hard drive device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restoreit by reformatting it. Insert the flash or USB hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - AdministrativeTools - Computer Management - Disk Management. Then right click on Disk 1removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted itwill indicate that it is Healthy. You need to format the flash or external drive. Format thedrive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchangedbetween MACs and PCs also between XP/Vista and earlier versions of Windows).

First of all it is not that necessary to click the Unplug Eject Icon for removing the Hard Disk. Default with Windows XP Opearating System there is a option for removing the USB External Devices without clicking the Unplug Icon. So no need to worry.

Device cannot work

Try cleaning your computer for spyware and viruses. Also try cleaning your registry out using a utility. Do your USB ports on the computer work with any other devices? Try using different USB ports and make sure theres no faults in you device list with the USB drivers. Let me know more info. What OS are you using. By unplugging it without safely removing is most dangerous to Flash memory but it's definitely possible to damage a hard drive by doing so. You might have corrupted your drive. Hope this helps.
