Just bought new pump. My old one lasted for 12 years. New one is 4 months old and recently started to make a loud whine or screeching noise when operating. It works fine but is very loud. I have trouble shot and eveything looks normal.

Most likely the bearings on the motor are going out. 4 months is way too soon, but it is possible you got a lemon. Unfortunately I wouldn't expect the new one to last 12 years. It's possible but unlikely. You should however get at least a few years. If the shaft seal on the motor shaft between the impeller and seal plate failed then water can drip back along shaft and get into motor bearings. This will cause motor bearings to fail. Even if this is not the case the motor bearings can fail even though it is rare to do so within first year. I would contact the place you bought the pump from, or whoever installed it. It should have at least a one year warranty. If for whatever reason this motor is not covered under warranty and you have to replace it, I would consider rebuilding it. Normally I don't care for rebuilds, but if the motor is truly only 4 months old then rebuilding it would be a good option.

I have a STA-Rite dura Glas H/L 1 1/2 - 1/4 hp pump. it is on it's 7th year. recently it has started to make a screeching noise. Can it be repaired or should it be replaced?

you can take your motor to the local Motor Shop and have them put new bearings in it. That is usually what causes that noise in the motor.

Power steering making loud noise, while turning....been adding lucas power steering for the last 4,5 months or so....what can the problem be?

You drive a caddy, spend a buck and get a new power steering pump. I would check the lines also and see if there is a steering fluid cooler which could have sprung a pinhole leak. It is 12 years old, most of its brethren are already upside down in junkyards.

I have Hayward Centurian SE 2 hp pool motor pump, around 15 years old. Just the other day it started making a loud whining noise. Is there a quick fix for this?

if its whining but still spinning, the bearings are done. If it just makes a loud noise, the capacitor could be bad or the bearings have seized.

Loud screeching noise coming from car after stops.

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.

Mine is a FDB635RFS4 model - issue is loud screeching noise

i recently had the same problem of a loud screeching noise. my unit was installed new in 1999 and has worked well up to this point.

when i disassembled the tub water filter i found the filter was heavily clogged (it is supposed to be self cleaning), and i also found glass shards from a broken wine glass. i further disassembled the plastic housing under the filter ( held in place by three torx drive screws ) which covers the pump impeller and holds the lower spray arm. while i did not find any blockage in the pump area, and no abnormal sound when i turned the impeller by hand, i did find that one of the pump impeller vanes has a small chip which probably makes the impeller unbalanced resulting in more than normal vibration. i cleaned the water filter and reassembled the parts and the original screeching noise is now gone.
