Question about Dishwashers
Whirlpool dishwasher goes through the normal cycle then after about 30 minutes restarts all over again. It always took a long time to wash as we use "Sani" cycle. But I began to notice that the "add a dish " light would go on after it had passed that option before. Then I realized after it went through all the cycles including drying, it was starting over.
I try to push the "cancel/drain" but it sometimes does that and starts all over after a little "rest". Then I pre-washed the dishes and used the "China" cycle and all went OK.
Today it's back to recycling on the "Normal" mode and it won't cancel drain. So I'm waiting for the dishes to dry with the shelves pulled out. Then I'll try again. But when I push "cancel/drain" the "controls locked" briefly comes on.
My guess is that the foil that the buttons are mounted to is defective. The control module "reads" the buttons that are pushed by the fact that the resistance between two pins on the circuitboard becomes zero ie. your pushing the button shorts out two pins. the foil could have moistire damage or the resiistance of the tracks could be too high. Solution for both would be to replace the control panel button foil.

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.

That is a comon problem with that model. It is not sensing a temperature change in the water.
Push i believe it is heated dry and sani rinse going back and fourth between the two to clear the code and see if you can get it to complete a cycle. If it doesnt call sears and schedule service there is a service flash repair that should not cost you anything to repair the unit.

Have the same problem with my Sears ( made by Whirlpool ) 1603. Visited the store and the man said it must have had a power surge. Even the slightest will FRY the electrical in the Power Pad unit. Cost to repair, maybe $ 120 for new unit , installation costs, plus $65 for the man to get in the truck. Is it worth it ? They had the same, but newer Dwasher on sale for $390 , free delivery , pay for installation, take out old $20. What to do....

SOURCE: Here again is my model
Open and close the door to make sure the door latch is securely fastened
Hi-Temp Wash, Hi-Temp Rinse, or Sanitize options.
Some models have options that may require a water heating delay, such as Hi-Temp Wash, Hi-Temp Rinse, or Sanitize. Additional time may be required to heat the water to the proper temperature. The dishwasher will continue to circulate water during this heating delay but the timer will not advance until the proper temperature is reached

Tips for a great answer:
Thank you for your post, friend!
I see you are having trouble with your Frigidaire dishwasher and you are receiving error code "5". However, it appears "5" is an invalid error code. May I have you model number please? Typically you can locate your serial tag on the inside wall on the left hand side. With this information I can better assist you with pinpointing the issue.
In the meantime, let's attempt resetting your dishwasher. You can do this by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position for roughly ten minutes. This usually clears false error codes. -Matt
