Presario arrow key and return key problem

Since last couple of days, the return key jumps one page instead of one line and arrow keys move in staggerred way in Excel. So If I start with cell A1 and hit right arrow key, it moves to cell B2 instead of B1. If I hit return it goes from cell A1 to A38. how can I fix this?

Examine the keyboard for dirt caught under the keys, this maybe diffucult to spot. this is not going to be easy at first, as the problem may lie further and at a more difficult angle, check also for damage to the keyboard and try to find a mechanical solution before suspecting the drivers here, as this looks like it may just be something caught under the keys, or the keys being dragged down together rather than a major electronic foulup.if you find nothing, then suspect drivers. after that, try checking for programming errors.

Key combinations to rotate screen

Deirdre,

The key combination to rotate the screen back to normal is: Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow

If you use Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys - whichever arrow key you press is the direction that the screen should rotate.

Hope that helps!

I have Compaq Presario CQ42 118TU. The F1 to F12 keys are no longer the upper layer (used to be default). The HP quick launch buttons are now the default upper layer. Now i have to press the 'fn' key first...

I just had exactly the same issue. I found the answer on the HP website, but to save you looking for it, here's what you do:

1) Go to the BIOS for your machine. You'll do this by interrupting the startup sequence. On my Presario CQ42, I had to press ESC while the machine was starting.

2) Once in the BIOS, use the right/left arrow keys to move to the System Configuration tab.

3) Use the up/down arrow keys to move to the Action Key setting (Enable/Disable) and change it from the current setting.

4) Save and exit the BIOS.

Once your laptop finishes the boot-up, the F1-F12 keys should function the way you were used to.
