Question about Linksys WRT54GX2 Wireless-G Broadband Router with SRX200 (LS-WRT54G2)

1 Answer

Linksys wireless adapter and linksys wrt54g2 router not seeing each other

I have a brand new wrt54g2 router that is connected wirelessly to another desktop PC in my home.

However, when I have my wife's dell laptop with a brand new Linksys wpc54g adapter sitting next to the router, the adapter is telling me there is "No association with the access point"

All installation steps have been followed, and the home network appears on the available networks list

The screens don't match your view; there is no appearance of any "more info" button anywhere on the screen, only "Link Information", "Site Survey", and "Profiles".

The weird thing(s) is that when I am prompted to choose the network, the signal strength is between 84 and 100; when I try to connect, there is zero.

I have also tried disabling the security on the router - no good

There is a wireless network icon on the windows taskbar on the lower right hand side, with a red "X"; there is also the wired network icon, 2 computers, also with a red "X".

When I right click the wireless icon, the popup window shows the home wireless network as available. When I attempt to access it, an error message comes up saying that network is out of range.

There are no icons on the Linksys screens associated with the connection. The only Linksys icon is the green box, also on the task bar

Was able to follow all instructions, but when attempting to connect to the network, getting the same "out of range..." error message. The weird thing is that the error message saying "out of range is popping up over the windows available networks screen showing a full 4 bars.

Just FYI - I just popped in my old 802.11b adapter, and noticed a couple of things

    1. It picked up other networks that the 802.11g adapter didn't

    2. I have 2 lights on the adapter right up until I try to connect to the wireless network, at which point the "link" light goes dark

Hope this helps - thank for staying on this.

Its possible that the wireless card does not have the correct wireless settings.

Open the linksys wireless monitor on your wife's laptop.
Go to the profiles tab, highlight the default SSID then click on edit at the bottom. It will search for the wireless network, from the list of networks that it will show you, click the name of your wireless network, in if the network is secured you will be ask to put in your network key. Then click connect. Then it will say that you profile was successfully configured. then click connect to network. It will take you back back to the screen where you saw no association to the access point, check if you will now get a new message. On that same screen click the more info button at the upper left hand side. Check the IP address it should be 192.168.1.x. If you have that IP then you can test if you will be albe to get online.

if you still have any problem just reply to this post.

Ok, right click the Green square icon on your task bar, and select windows wireless zero configuration, when a confirmation screen pops up click yes. And the square icon will turn to gray.

Now right click the wireless network connection icon go to view available wireless networks and click change advanced setting on the left hand side of the screen and click wireless networks tab at the top. On the wireless networks window at the bottom you will see the preferred network list (its a box). in the list remove then name that is not your and that you dont need any more, then say ok until you get out of that screen. Then right click again the wireless network connection screen and go to view available wireless network and connect to your network.

just reply to this post with the result so we can continue troubleshooting your concern.

Its possible it's with the router. Have you tried to change the channel aside from disabling the security?

If you still cant get any connection then you can do a firware update on the router.

Low connection to Internet

You can change channels, you can't increase frequency. The Linksys WRT54g is a 2.4ghz Frequency wireless device. You can purchase a 2.4-5.0ghz Frequency Dual-Band device. If you have Devices with Wireless N Adapters you will benefit, theoretically, from a N wireless access point increasing speed. Do a little research, there's more to it than replacing a Wireless device. That's only one piece of the puzzle.

WRT54G2 wired desktop fine, can't connect to wireless.

Hi Seth6025,

Try without using Wireless Encryption (password).

Try changing channels; default is 6; try 1 or 11.
Change your SSID: personalize it
SSID broadcast: Enable

Check the advanced wireless settings and make sure MAC filtering - DISABLED.

Reset the Linksys router by pressing RESET for 30 seconds should everything fails and re-configure. Firmware is another consideration BUT this is just a new release.

Regards,

Angel

Wireless will not connect to internet after installing XP Service Pack 3. Router is a Linksys WRT54G2, adapter is a Linksys WMP11. Router is set to "mixed".

Try upgrading the firmware for your routher and the linksys WMP11. Also try setting router to 802.11g instead of mixed to see if it connects.
