Mintek mdp 1760

The screen stays black and the sound is on, battery charged but does the same thing while plug into the wall. Different movie, same thing. I was having no problems before this. What could be the problem and can I fix it?

My screen also remains dark with full sound until you press the little white release button near the hinge. The screen returns to original brightness for about 10 seconds then dims again until the button is pressed again.

The problem could be one of two things: the screen itself has gone bad or the cable that connects the screen to the rest of the unit (inside of the casing) has a broken connection somewhere.

If you have moved the unit around a whole lot, with lots of jarring to it, the cable may have come loose, but normal movement should not cause this to happen. My guess is that the screen has gone bad, but there is one other possibility. If you can see a VERY faint image on the screen in a dark room, then there is a bad "FL inverter" board. This is the part that increases the video signal's power so that the LCD can display it and when it goes bad, the video is still there but is nearly impossible to see unless viewed in a dark room.

It seems that Mintek has gone out of business and was not sold or bought by another company, so any warranty you may have thought you had is now gone (unless you bought an extended warranty through a retail store when you purchased it). So if you have any electronics know-how, you could always take it apart and verify that all cables are fully seated, but beyond that you'd need some fairly advanced electronic component knowledge to find and fix the problem.

My recommendation: Buy a new one from a well-known manufacturer.

Battery wont charge.

Unfortunately, Mintek seems to have gone out of business, so there is no way to purchase replacement parts without finding them online somewhere.

The problem could be caused by one of three things:
  1. The battery is dead and cannot be recharged
  2. One of the battery connections is broken in some way
  3. The cord is bad and will not provide power
If the battery is dead, you're stuck with keeping it plugged in or trying to find a battery online. If one of the battery connections is bad, the only way to test it is with a new battery and you're back to finding one online. If the cord is bad, it wouldn't provide power at all, so it sounds like both of your cords are fine.
