I had dark black lines when I put in a new toner cartridge. So I got a eyeglass cloth and wiped off the drum. Then I cleaned off the top area of the item, being very careful of the cleaning wire, cleaned off the area where the paper comes out. Then took some Canned Air and blew everything off or out. Now it is clean!!!!!

Cleaning the drum is NOT RECOMMENDED. However if you really have to... use a very soft lint free cloth
Drums normally get dirty when they are at the end of their useful life, as parts are worn

Does you machine say replace PC drum on the control panel if so need to have the drum developer replaced at the same time. The code is dealing with the image unit the drum is one part the developer section is the bottom part or the sensor at the bottom of the image unit is bad. If developer was replaced did that person use a vacuum clean if so then the static electricity from the vacuum clean destroyed the sensor. NEVER USE A VACUUM to remove old toner. Worse case the main board that the sensor feeds is bad. Also when (if the drum and developer where replace did that person clear the counter for developer and drum. Machine works on info from counters to set certain voltages on certain assy. If the counters are not cleared then the copier thinks there is old developer and old drum in the machine and sets voltages for those units when in reality there are new drum and developer . Also after the developer was replaced was the required F8 run. And no prints/fax or copies where made before the f8 was run. When replacing the developer and drum the fax line and the Ethernet cable need to be removed first even used F8 and counters are done in service mode.

How can I clean the drum in my Muratec copy machine versus purchasing one if I can clean it?

Hi when you say clean the drum the drum is cleaned by the drum cleaning blade if the blade is no good then the drum will not be cleaned if you want to clean the drum you canuse a very soft cloth lint free to clean the drum
it is not really something you clean unless like you got a label stuck on the drum once they reach there life they need to be replaced as you can create a lot more issues with the machine

I need to clean the drum, only one month old! and won't print, screen says replace the drum. not acceptable.

It is not the question of how old the drum is, it is the page count that will trigger a replacement notice.
If in doubt, I would suggest contacting the place of purchase or the manufacturer - this is a community help site...

I was getting some unwanted ink markings on the sides of my documents. The toner seems fine. I happened to have a new drum and the drum light had been blinking, so I installed the new drum with the old...

The problem your having is most likely the drum or the fuser. First, separate the two and clean any dirt you find, On the drum, there is a purple tab that moves left and right, do that a couple times, it will clean the wires. put it back together and do a test print. if you see the same lines with your old and new drum, then your fuser will need to be replaced.
