Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TR7000 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

I have camcorder Sony 700x (several years old-about 6), and it no longer has a date & time, also my 120 min. tapes only give me 60 minutes. I know how to push the "menu" button, and then there is a round knob at back of camera that allows me to scroll to subject, but when I get there, I can't get that button (or any other) to change recording speed or time/date. I am recording while I am trying to do this.

Please help me if you can. Thanks Mrs. Armstrong

Sharre, thank you so much for your solution. I have one more question. I was able to fix everything I asked about before, but is there a way to get LONGER taping on this camera? Although my tapes say 120 minutes, I never get more than about 90 min. recording time. It is set on LP - like you advised above. Are there tapes that have longer time that will work in this camera? I haven't been able to find any. I'm trying to tape for several hours at a time and it's frustrating.

Thanks so much for your input. Guess we'll have to splurge for the digital camera that tapes like 8 hours one of these days!

Thank you for your input. I guess we'll just have to purchase one of those digital camcorders that record like 8 hours on its memory when we can. thanks!

There is a built-in rechargeable battery in the camera and after approx 3 months it will be completely discharged if the camcorder is not used. To recharge: Connect camcorder to wall outlet using the supplied AC Adapter with the power switch turned OFF for more than 24 hours. (To keep the internal batter charged, try to plug the camera in every couple of months or attach a fully charged external battery for at least 24hrs). To set the clock: Set the power switch to CAMERA and then press MENU. Turn the dial to select CLOCK SET, scroll to the toolbox looking icon -it may say DEMO MODE next to it. Then press the dial. Turn the dial to select the desired year, month, day and then pressing the dial to set each as you go. For the tape speed go to Menu settings scroll to find Tape settings (TAPE SET), select REC MODE and from there you can change the tape speed from SP to LP. Hope this helps. I have the Sony Digital 8 Handycam DCR-TRV250 I purchased about 3 or 4 years ago (700x digital zoom etc).

Unfortunately, I believe we are stuck with the shorter tape time. I too wanted more recording time with my Handycam and can not get the full 120 minutes using the LP mode. I believe this may also have to do with the type of cameras we have (mine being digital) - for quality purposes of our home movies even though the recording time on the tape shows possibilities of 120 min the actual recording time we can extend is only an additional 30 minutes; hence 90 min of tape time. I am always on the look out for cassettes with longer taping capabilities. I wished I did have a fix for this - we'd both be doing a happy dance :)

To be able to record for 8 hours would be a dream come true! I almost took a step backwards w/ the purchase of a new cam. I was preparing to leave for a 16 hour journey to visit w/ family. In preparing my TRV250 Handycam the cassette mechanism jammed and now will not eject. I ran to the nearest Wal-Mart and purchased a Sony Hybrid Plus DCR-DVD810 Handycam - A little pricey. (After I had purchased the digital 8 I knew when it went kaput I wanted the DVD camcorder next). The DVD's are really cute being tiny and everything, drawback: there is only 30 minutes recording time on the little DVD discs! Now, if I used dual layer discs or double-sided discs I can double the recording time to a whole 60 minutes! Advantage: it can record up to 5 hours (3Mbps) on Internal Memory! Another drawback, there is no lighting lamp. The cam does take very nice footage in low light conditions w/ the nightshot plus. I believe the lamp has to be purchased separately there is a slot on top of the cam for the lamp to attach. This camera is about half the size of my digital 8 and not much bigger than my Kodak digital camera so it fits nicely into my purse. I love having a memory stick slot - my TRV250 did not have. I'm sure the price will come down in the future on the Hybrid as newer models are built and available. You may want to consider this an option for your next purchase! :) 5 hrs recording time on just internal memory!! There are tons of features on this cam I haven't even begun to explore.

Oh! AND the LCD is touch screen! How cool is that? (Sorry, sounds like I've written a review)

I've taken my Digital 8 apart, just a little, blew it out w/ compressed air, then applied Liquid Wrench DRY LUBRICANT to the moving gears. I let it set out all night with the cassette door open. This morning I reinserted the battery and to my surprise the melody played (for cassette add/removal) and the tray came out! My joy was only for a second as the tray reinserted itself then ejected, then back in, back out..etc. :( I pulled the battery, applied more dry lubricant and am letting it sit w/ the door open and the tray ejected (because that's where it decided to stop or rather stick). I will try again tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Date/Time resets every time i turn on camera.

Hi, yes, there is a small coin memory battery, usually something like a CR3032 lithium battery. Turn off the camera and insert a new 'coin' battery (correct side up). Close battery cover, turn on camera and go to menu and set time and date. It should remember the time and date for a year or two, provided you put a regular battery on the camera on a regular basis. Also note, some older Sony cameras allow you to set it so that it shows only the date for the 1st 5 seconds when you first turn on the camera that day, then shuts it off unless you want it to superimpose the time and date on the video. Good luck, and let me know if this solves your problem. John
