Question about Sony DAV-S500 System

1 Answer

DAVS550 won't read DVDs

I have had my DAV-S550 for about 4 years. Yesterday it stopped reading all DVDs that I know are fine and it just say "Cannot read this disk" - to my knowledge no settings have been changed although with 2 teenage daughters I can't guarantee that.
Any thoughts anyone please? (Suggestions to change the daughters are not an option!) I am also having this problem but it is becoming more persistent. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi WelcomeJee,

Thanks for your advice, would a DVD lens cleaning disc have the same effect or is it best to use a cotton swab?

    Thanks

cd's use a different laser than dvd's when playing. You would need to have the optical pickup replaced.

I have had a similar problem with new Movie DVDs' - I don't think the DAV-S500 can handle the new Dual Layer DVDs.

I put the DVD in my laptop and it read it straight away with no probs............

Hello, your home theatre system is from the year 2003. Maybe a cleaning the optical can solve the problem. There are cleaning CD kits on the market, but better option is if a pro does it (the cleaning) for you. If you need more assistance please advice. Arpi

DVDs won't play

Hi Pookie, This is an easy fix. All you need to get is a CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner for about $5.00. You can get these at Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, or any similar place. Use this, and let me know how it works for you. Best regards, nightdiver

Not reading all DVDs

This problem has been getting more and more of a popualar complaint and there is no real setr answer for it as I have found that when i see this happening theres an alighnment issue, a foggy lens, dirt or hair in the carrage assembly track or worm gear, and also a weak laser assy. Good Luck
