When the washer is spinning it sounds like rocks are in the machine. I had this problem for a while. Now it's leaking water from under the machine and only at the end of the cycle. The machine is only 2...

If the unit is not perfectly level the drum spins out of balance. If left out-of-balance, for a long period of time, it can cause the basket/drum to be unstable. The pitch will be off and functional parts will wear unevenly. Left alone like that, worn parts breakdown and effect other working parts in the long run. The hose may now be defective as well, that is why you have a leak. The brand is acceptable, but the original installation was faulty from the start.

My Maytag washer is about 15 years old. Suddenly

Without a model number, but with the age, I can only assume that this is a Dependable Drive wash system.

This system utilizes a drive belt and a pump belt and it is recommended they be replaced together after every13 years of normal use. They are very simple to install with no teardown or tools needed. The belts have installation instructions printed on the package.

1. Drive Belt

2. Pump Belt
http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-a612-%3d%3di437300&PartID=437300

The pump belt must be adjusted to the tension requirements written on the package. See link below.

3. Parts breakdown/disassembly procedures.

Other issues could also cause the same symptoms but the belts at this age is the 1st suspect.

Spin cycle

Rear shocks tend to wear faster than the front.
Try switching the front shocks to the rear. If this helps, plan on
buying 2 new ones. You will have time to search for the cheapest price... typically 25 USD @ /www.appliancepartspros.com/

Maytag MAF1200AAW

WASHER MAGIC is the revolutionary product specifically formulated to safely and effectively clean the family washing machine. Top loading machine use whole bottle. Front loading use 1/2 bottle. You may rub Washer Magic on with a rag to eliminate odors.

Why Use WASHER MAGIC? Every time you wash your clothes, hard water and detergents causes lime scale and rust to build up inside the tub, pump and hoses. This build-up reduces the ability of your washing machine to perform. Mineral build-up acts as an abrasive increasing the wear on your clothes. The result: your clothes are not as clean as they could be and wear out sooner.

If you are unhappy with the way your clothes comes out of the wash, then WASHER MAGIC may be the solution you have been looking for. Only WASHER MAGIC can restore the family washing machine to the way it performed when it was new. Use once a month for optimal washer performance and to keep control of trouble causing build-up.

Maytag atlantis washer

Start by checking the belt by tilting the machine back and examining for wear, glazing and cracks, next pull the belt to make sure everything turns. Post back if this looks fine.

Yes its true the main support bearing is part of the outer tub and is factory set .Dry bearing will roar until it develops a leak and eventually starts a main pulley shake that will cut through the back of the outer tubs shell. The outer tub costs about $175.00(varies)the labor (please sit down)yes, is high enough for you to go out and find your self a 15 year old Maytag top load, re-build it,scrap the front load, and never see a repairman for the next 15 Years. No joke!                             I/m happy to help you with anything you need a answer to.............Sorry about your Maytag    :(
