I can't find the software for it. It's very old. I'm trying to install it from old discarded tower to a newer,also old though, running '98.

Hi,

To my knowledge, there are three (3) files/drivers necessary for the D-Link DE530 series: NETDLKR5.INF, NETDLKR5.CAT and DLKRTS.SYS. Of course on installation, setup would ask for your Win98 CD fot the other networking files.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Problems with IP address

Hi,

Possible three (3) solutions:
1. Purchase and install a PCI LAN card (NIC) inside your "old tower". Should not be that difficult using any available PCI slot. Most would be auto detect/install by Windows (XP) or should come with a driver CD;
2. Use a USB to Ethernet adapter/converter; and/or
3. Use static IP address for the tower Same IP add (+1 on the last digit, same Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS (if any). Should you need additional information on this method you need to post back details of your modem (brand/model, normally in a sticker underneath) so we can determine if it will allow simultaneous connection on USB & LAN.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

How old is your tower? Most computers for the last few years have had a TCP/IP port. If it really does not have one then yes, you can purchase an ethernet card or usb device. Just head to BestBuy, Officemax, or Target and tell them you need an ethernet adapter. I have always used the PCI cards. Some people prefer the external USB devices because they are easier to install.
